Intriguing comments from Stoke fans on Joselu £5m move to Newcastle

Stoke fans have reacted to news of an imminent move for Joselu to Newcastle United.

Widespread reports on Monday say that a £5m fee has apparently been agreed and the striker will have his medical and complete a move in the next 24 hours.

With four goals in his first season at Stoke (2015/16) and five last year on loan at Deportivo (2016/17), it doesn’t exactly impress.

However, Joselu did only get 10 Premier League starts at Stoke and nine in La Liga last season, as well as sub appearances.

Interesting to see the reaction of Stoke fans to the news with the majority view appearing to be that they think it is a mistake, based on a few factors…

Four goals in two pre-season friendlies, alternatives being Crouch and Berahino, as well as a growing  lack of belief in the management of Mark Hughes.

This weekend saw Stoke kick off the season with a 1-0 defeat at Everton, Hughes starting Berahino and replacing him with Crouch on 72 minutes – Joselu left out of the squad. In total the whole team only had one shot on target at Goodison.

Stoke fans comment on Joselu to Newcastle via their top Oatcake message board:

Joselu and walters are both in the right for demanding a move .

There is no way either of them are as bad as berahino and good on them for standing their ground .

As for Hughes , he has embarrassed himself and Rafa and Dysche are laughing at him.’

‘Joselu having a medical at Newcastle ahead of £5million move…FFS!’

‘Walters and Joselu both know they have played better for stoke city than berahino AND the stats prove that .

They are both in the right to demand their move .

Look at it this way …if joselu was your son would you tell him to sit on the bench at stoke and watch berahino play ???

The answer to that question is why he’s leaving.’

‘I think they have themselves a bargain at 5 million.’

‘Is £5m a yearly loan fee.’

‘If Joselu goes to Newcastle and becomes their Michu it would be disastrous.’

‘I wouldn’t worry. He may score against us, but he’s not even going to be first choice at Newcastle, and they’re going straight down.’

‘For what it’s worth ( which is nowt )

Walters is a better player than berahino

Joselu is a better player than berahino

As for joselu my opinion is that he is technically gifted , a great finisher and he’s got everything you need to be a top striker except bravery.  Which as the stats show makes him a big improvement on berahino .’

‘If we get our money back for him and replace him with Jese then that’s worked out pretty well for us, he clearly isn’t going to feature in Hughes’ plans so best we get him off the wage bill.

I can’t see him scoring more than 6 goals for Newcastle in this league.’

‘For £5m I think its a good deal for you, but don’t expect too much from him.

He never got a fair chance at Stoke (like so many other strikers we’ve tried), he’s never going to be prolific but surrounded by the right players there is definitely potential there.’

‘I’d have preferred him to go abroad i can see him doing well there, not sure we saw the best of him.’

‘Wind back 12 months and we were all saying that we’ll never get anywhere near our outlay on him.

A season in Spain and 4 goals in friendlies and he’s the next Alan Shearer.

He’s a talented player but I think a few fans have forgotten his shortfalls plus we done know what’s going on behind the scenes.

He may want to leave, play for a Benitez or whatever. I wish him good luck and hopefully with add ons we get our money back on him.’

‘If newcastle want one of our strikers then they can have berahino.’

‘So we are going with Berahino or Crouch up top all season then?

Is Hughes trying to get the sack on purpose?’

‘I don’t see why we’d sell him for that little, when he’s a perfect rotation striker. There must be another striker deal close if we are going to get rid surely?’

‘The day before the Bolton (friendly) game, I thought we had a 0% chance of making a profit on Joselu, and assumed he’d be back on loan to a bottom-half La Liga team with us subsidising his wages again.

So I’m not too despondent at all about him going, although I can see his qualities.

I think we’ve dropped a bit lucky on finding the one Spanish Prem manager who might have fancied Joselu.’

‘To allow him to leave for 5-6milion to another prem club is just disgraceful he’s the only one who looks capable of hitting the back of the net.’

‘If Joselu goes to Newcastle, it is guaranteed that he’ll score against us.

The way he reacted to his own rebound off the post against St. Pauli was a thing of beauty. Berahino, on the other hand . . . it just defies belief.’

‘He looked our only striker likely to score goals in pre-season so to get rid without giving him a chance seems a little odd.

I guess Hughes already had his mind made up on him from past mediocre performances in the league.

Jese is not a direct replacement and we definitely need another striker now, one with the game to play up front alone, which Saido looks like he does not possess.’
