Huddersfield fans were understandably a happy bunch as they reflected on Sunday’s 1-0 win over Newcastle.
The biggest ever football crowd at their stadium, having watched their team ensure it was maximum points from the opening two games.
As well as the pleasure from another win, there was also a cherry on the top for many Huddersfield fans with the fact it was Newcastle – still sore after defeat in March and NUFC going on to win the second tier.
Also a few sly digs aimed at Newcastle fans demanding/expecting too much…
Huddersfield fans commenting on Sunday via their top message board Down At The Mac:
‘We may still go down, but if we do, it won’t be behind Newcastle.’
‘Definitely not the best game against a poor team who sat back and dug in, obviously hoping to catch us on a break like last season.
6 points from 2 games, fantastic but we are going to have to improve quickly. Other teams with more experience in this league would have tore us a new one this afternoon. Mooy and Schindler, outstanding today.’
‘We played into Newcastle`s hands last season at home. Got caught on the break. Wagner a quick learner. 3 points. Wasn`t pretty at times. Come May could prove to be very valuable points.’
‘I get the feeling that against better sides we will get punished during them spells of nervy, ponderous possession that marred the 1st half.
But so many positives: the move and shot for Mooy’s tidy goal, Loewe’s inch perfect last ditch tackle, and the godlike Schindler on the ascendant. It is a great time to be a Town fan!’
‘You can’t play flat out all the time and I think those ponderous possession periods with Mooy dictating tempo are important to catch the the breath and get your shape back together.
We do that pretty well. It will be interesting to see how we do it against the better teams.’
‘Lossl made another top top save.’
‘The team seem to be spoilt for choice for players at the moment as nobody in our squad looks out of place in the Premier league.
Dream times made possible by top quality signings.’
‘Problem with Newcastle is they think they are better than they are .
A lot of wasted money on expensive players that could not be gelled into a premier league team
Wagner has spent wisely on hard working players who give all especially as team players.’
‘Very comfortable and aside from the Ritchie shot mid first half which was well tipped around the post had little to worry about.
Saw all the Geordie hordes in the Coach Escort heading back to the North East and if I’d been on there would have been severely disappointed in a seeming lack of effort from my team.
Not to take anything away from Town but thought they showed very little and on what I saw look like filling one of the bottom 3 slots.’
‘Great start to the season! Extraordinary times for Town fans. Not sure where it’ll end but I keep having to raise my expectations!’
Very weak performance from Newcastle, no urgency when a goal behind.
Rafa has it all to do with his threadbare squad giggle probably not the smartest move to complain about lack of signings, doubt it motivated the ones that he wants to replace. Ritchie and Gayle to failing to score would have been disappointing. Shelvey was very quiet ;)
I understood it was viewed as an opportunity to pick up some points (against little old Huddersfield).
worrying times indeed…
I thought Palace were better than Newcastle, but only just.’
‘Picked up a decent player in that Merino though. Looked quality and better in there than Shelvey tbh.’
‘Plenty for us to work on, we actually created any danger that Newcastle posed..
Winning with best moment of the match was sweet after last seasons game being decided by cheating and poor officials..
Gayle managed to do nothing but still had a couple of dives…’
‘6 out of 6 and no goals conceded, legendary stuff.
My only gripe today is that we didn’t score a few more and that we didn’the keep the ball as well as we should have at key times causing ourselves problems bit I guess we will learn that.
Superb move for the goal and we got stuck in and worked hard. I’m chuffed to bits, plenty of time to catch Man Utd lads don’t worry.’
‘For me Newcastle were too negative & looked a better side later on when tried to push on.’
‘I thought we just about deserved to win a tight game against a Newcastle side who actually attacked more than I thought they would. We started quite well and dominated the start of the first half, but Newcastle got to grips with our attacking players as the half wore on.
‘The goal was sheer class from Mooy and it’s a shame we couldn’t build on it and get a second. Newcastle did create chances, but our defence and goalkeeper are tough to beat these days. For the first time in my years watching Town I don’t worry every time the ball goes in our box.
It wasn’t a perfect performance but it was a good one. We had good performances all over the pitch and we dealt with most of what Newcastle threw at us.
Every point at this level must be fought for, and we’ll play better teams than Palace and Newcastle, but 6 points out of 6 is a perfect start. This is as good as it gets being a Town fan. Long may it continue.’
‘Newcastle fans are an ungrateful bunch wanting Ashley to splash his cash.
Didn’t he give Bentitez £50m+ to get out of the Championship.
That’s in addition to all the money spent when they were in the Premier League on all those French frauds.’
‘Not the greatest game but a great win. Well done lads.’
‘Great result, 2 wins and a win against a possible relegation team?’
‘And some revenge for last season……losing at home to Toon may have cost us the championship.’
