Credit where due to Rafa and they players, they did well. Better than I expected, by far.

Not gonna get carried away by this result – West Ham were as poor as the result sounds. Ritchie was somewhere near back to his best and I think Shelvey might not get his place back in the side on Merino’s showing. More positives than negatives to take from this result though, gonna be an enjoyable fortnight til the next game :)

How about Shelvey further up the pitch as the no 10? He has to be worth a look if Rafa wants to keep Merino in the middle.

        good shout

      • Leazes Ender

        Worth an experiment

      • Simon Ritter

Shelvey lacks pace, wouldn’t work further upfield where quick feet and calm thinking are essential. Merino was twice the player yesterday that he was at Huddersfield. Mind, Whammers were half as good as the Terriers, so please reserve judgment.

It`s definitely going to be interesting, after the international break, to see how Rafa sets the team up. That`s assuming he isn`t at West Ham!

  • Albert Stubbins

Clarke was class again today- a proper player in a sea of mediocrity. Ritchie worked tirelessly and Merino looks like a bargain- I would play him in no.10 role instead of the hapless Perez. Great win against a poor team but we played well all round imo.

    • Mike Adam

Albert, I agree Merino should be our no. 10. I also think the team had most of their shots on goal and quality scoring chances after Mitro came on. If Rafa won’t play two strikers up top, I would love to see Merino with his size instead of Perez with Mitro as the striker, he is IMO flat out better than the other two.

Mitrovic scored 3 in pre season and has not got a full game yet but is 2/2 this season it strikes me as a bad idea to sell him and I’d suggest that he should be getting more games he will score more than Gayle jury is still out on joselu but he looks more suited to the number 10 role than the number 9 role to me as does Gayle

    • mentalman

He showed today why rafa wats to sell him with the needless elbow which will see him most probably banned for a few games

      • Steve Jones

I reckon Mitrovic deliberately elbowed him so he would get a ban and Newcastle wouldn’t be able to get rid of him in this window

So many good dispays merino as i hoped stood out Jon Jo who?

  • Andrew Cowley

Ritchie best,Clark second and no real passengers today, great win
