David Prutton attempted to make a bit of a name for himself last season, invariably predicting that Newcastle United would fail to win week by week, as Rafa Benitez led his players to promotion and then the second tier title.

It is League Cup action this week and now that the likes of Paul Merson are taking care of Premier League predictions, it is a rare opportunity for David Prutton to once again have his say about NUFC.

The Sky Sports expert points to Newcastle allegedly having problems at both ends of the pitch.

Then combining that with Forest winning three of their four Championship matches, Prutton has predicted a ‘shock at St James Park’.

The pundit forecasting Newcastle failing to score and going out at the first attempt to Forest.

Daryl Murphy did an excellent job when called upon last season for Newcastle and has already scored three Championship goals for Forest, including the winner on Saturday against Middlesbrough.

David Prutton believes he will be ‘desperate’ to score against his ‘old side where he didn’t get much of a look-in’.

Hopefully David Prutton is as successful with his cup predictions as he was last season with his Championship ones.

David Prutton talking to Sky Sports:

Graeme Souness was very critical about Newcastle’s defending at the weekend, and rightly so.

“They also have problems at the other end of the field, and Dwight Gayle could use a game here to get off the mark this season.

“Nottingham Forest have had a decent start and they could give Newcastle a tough game.

“Daryl Murphy will be desperate to start and score at his old side where he didn’t get much of a look-in last season.

“We could be in for a shock at St James Park.”

David Prutton predicts: Newcastle United 0 Nottingham Forest 1

That lads not a full shilling

  • Paul Patterson

When people say things for shock value, the shock soon wears off.

  • Jimblag23

    😂 what a d-bag.

  • Jezza

To be fair a prediction of a 1-0 win for Notts doesn’t seem that outrageous considering the form we are in. Only a few days ago a lot of posters on this forum were sneering at predictions of a 1-1 draw at Huddersfield but in the event we didn’t even manage that.

    • Leazes Ender

The Huddersfield cat Felix predicted it….. Merson was wrong.

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

so was Ryder 2-0 to the Moggy

    • GToon

You are right Jezza. Anybody over a certain age will know forest have a decent cup record at our ground. They don’t like it when we invade the pitch but other than that they tend to do well.

    • Biggs Darklighter

We were good for a point against Huddersfield and should easily beat forrest. You are full of cack.

      • Jezza

Oh yes. Did we get a point at Huddersfield? Did we? We got exactly what we deserved. In any case, as I said, a lot of people on this forum were sneeering at predictions of a 1-1 draw at Huddersfield with the expectation being that we would win easily so even if we had scraped an undeserved point there it wouldn’t have been very impressive would it? On what grounds should we “easily beat forrest [sic]”? Because we get bigger crowds? We have played 2, lost 2 and scored none. With form like that you’re not exactly in a position to easily beat anybody. They beat us last season and our squad is no stronger than it was then. We’ll see who’s full of cack after the match tonight.

      • Jezza

It gives me no satisfaction to say this but who’s full of cack now eh?

  • Leazes Ender

You’re having a go at southern ‘pundits’ for making predictions based upon scant knowledge of the club yet let Lee Ryder gets off free for his backing of every single lame duck manager, bigging up third drawer journeyman footballers and kissing the posterior of this despicable regime!

Ashley has stated he’ll be playing the kids in cup competitions so a defeat is very much on the cards!

Its not a case of ‘they’re all against us and we don’t care’ because we are now a despised football club….. we are just cannon fodder!

    • NUFCLX

Having a go at the chronicle again are we ? I still wonder why.

  • Dane Dawson

    Bring back ian holloway

    • Jimblag23

You’re right, he had that job ’til qpr came calling.
Holloway had a lot of respect for Rafa and wouldn’t have been so nauseous for the last year.

  • Rob Lee

Forest fan in peace. As far as i am concerned, the biggest shock will be Daryl Murphy playing. Warburton will not want to risk him for this match, especially as we have a massive game against Leeds at the weekend. It is more likely to be Ben Brereton or Jason Cummings starting up top.

Good luck to you guys for the rest of the season (obviously, after Wednesday night of course!). COYR

    • Geordiegiants

      Cheers Rob lad!

  • GToon

Lets just hope they don’t bring their reserve team down like Sheffield Wed did or it could end up 2 or 3, never mind just 1. There’s no way I can see us winning this game with our current level of confidence regardless of who plays or doesn’t. The rolling stone is coming to a grinding halt.

    • TheNutJob

he`ll play the Mad Serb who`ll score a hat trick aided by young Murph

      • Biggs Darklighter

        And Arrons

  • TheNutJob

here`s my tip, go and put £50 on Rafa leaving within a month if the situation remains the same at Nufc

    • anyobrien

      And sleep

    • Geordiegiants

You will probably only get £51 back it’s that bleeding obvious.

  • TheFatController

Given he has no idea what strength teams either side will put out its farcical to make predictions – we could have a first 11 or half the under 23s – how can you predict a result in any tie given the varying approaches clubs take to this competition?

    • Jimblag23

But then he wouldn’t be able to spout his moronic mutterings.
On Saturday he said to Kelly Cates,
“(some player) puts it in the cage”
He should be put in a cage, key thrown away and then slowly lowered into the sea 😂😂

Why does Sky employ these cnuts,
      Merson “Mahrez is different gravy”
      Shut up, you’re not 15.

    • Bunyip

Half the under 23’s are better than the first eleven. They play hard and fast and know how to win. My suggestion is the best half of the first eleven and the best of the under 23’s particularly the strikers and centre backs.

  • Geordiegiants

We should not of sold Murphy!

    • Rob Lee

we’re glad you did mind ;-)

      • Geordiegiants

I bet, he is like a red wine 🍷 better with age.

  • foggy

I’d like to see a change to a 3-5-2 line up for the Forest game.
    Mbemba Lascelles Clark
Murphy Merino De Jong Hayden Aarons
    Jesolu Mitro

    • Jimblag23

Dropping Ritchie with 2 young inexperienced wing backs.
      Risky I’ll give you that.
