Interviewed on Spanish radio ahead of the new Premier League season, Ayoze Perez says that his ‘relationship with Rafa Benitez is very good’ and that he has learnt a lot from the Newcastle manager.

It is no great secret but the United striker also talks of how much ‘Newcastle fans adore Rafa Benitez’, due to everything he has done for the club in the past 17 months.

When it comes to who will win the Premier League this season, he believes it to be between Chelsea and Manchester City.

Having started the final two friendlies of the pre-season and scoring the opening goal against Hellas Verona, it looks very likely that Ayoze Perez will start for Newcastle on Sunday against Spurs.

Newcastle fans expected the club to have brought in a new number ten as a top priority but with Mike Ashley failing to properly back Rafa Benitez in the transfer market, it was once again left to Perez and Diame, with Siem de Jong also given a fair chance in the friendlies.

With Diame and de Jong showing absolutely nothing, by default Ayoze Perez looks to have won that race for the time being and will hopefully grasp the opportunity.

As for personal ambitions, Perez sees himself playing in La Liga in a few years time.

A lack of pace is a big handicap for Ayoze Perez in the Premier League and though he clearly has a certain level of talent, once again we wait to see whether he can really convince in the English top tier this time, his previous two seasons in the PL being very hit and miss.

Ayoze Perez speaking to El Transistor:

“I would like to return to Spain in a few years and have the opportunity to play in La Liga.

“The Newcastle fans adore Rafa Benitez – he has done good work and for that reason they have so much appreciation for him.

“My relationship with Rafa Benitez is very good and I have learnt a lot from him.

“Old Trafford is a special stadium but the atmosphere at Anfield is second to none.

“I think this season the Premier League is between Manchester City and Chelsea.”
