When it comes to age, where does this Newcastle United squad compare to the rest of the Premier League?

A lot of people expected Rafa Benitez to go for experience in this transfer market but the five signings so far have had an average age of only 23.

Players setting out on their careers rather than in the twilight and looking for that final contract to end their playing days with.

This has helped to deliver an average age in the Newcastle United squad of only 25.7, the second lowest of the Premier League, only Liverpool (25.1) having a younger group of senior players.

Clubs such as West Brom, Watford and West Ham all having squads with an average age three years older than Newcastle’s. The Hammers going for the likes of 29 year old Hernandez and 30 year old Hart, valuing experience over relative youth.

Good core of young players that will improve with additions. Seems like Rafa’s planning for the future

The future is one week away.

  • Paul Patterson

A good positive spin on things for a change.
However, a more experienced goalscorer is a must.

A consequence of ‘Moneyball’ by Charnley and his years of the buy to sell policy more than by design.

Good to know why this is also actually a terrible thing. Was worried it might be a ray of sunshine. Appreciate the effort as always.

Moneyball to Rafaball the result is the same, survival & it`s been like that for nearly 10yrs

All the sh*te teams at the top. All the amazing teams at the bottom.

Are team is so good. I can’t wait for the season to start now.

Sh*te West Ham going for has beens on a downward trajectory in their careers on stupid f*cking money. They will struggle.
