Achraf Lazaar signing for new club in Milan on Wednesday – Report
Achraf Lazaar looks to at last have found a new club.
A disastrous £3m move from Palermo to Newcastle in summer 2016, saw the left-back play only 36 minutes of Championship football last season, in four brief substitute appearances.
This summer, Rafa Benitez has made clear that the Moroccan international is one of the numerous players he is trying to get rid of to help enable him to bring in players who he does want to play.
Two weekends ago, whilst Newcastle were taking on Huddersfield, the Newcastle manager allowed Achraf Lazaar to travel to Milan and meet his agents, in an effort to try and find a new club.
However, Lazaar was forced to travel back to Tyneside having received no ‘concrete offers’.
Tuesday night though has brought claims that Wednesday will see the defender sign up with another Serie A club.
Sport Italia report that Achraf Lazaar will meet up with officials of Benevento in Milan on Wednesday and sign on the dotted line.
They say that the deal is a loan with then an option to buy for £3m.
Benevento have seen a remarkable rise in recent times, with successive promotions seeing them go from the third tier of Italian football to Serie A within two years.
Opening the season with two defeats so far, it is looking a tough ask for the minnows to avoid relegation this season.
First things first though and hopefully Lazaar’s move will go without a hitch and at least temporarily, NUFC will have ditched the left-back, as well as the likes of de Jong, and Riviere, with Hanley also said to be on the brink of joining Norwich.
