Shola Ameobi believes that Notts County ‘are on the cusp of something great’.
The former Newcastle striker signing up in June to continue this late chance of another career at the other Magpies.
He arrived as a free agent in February to sign on with former NUFC teammate and now Notts County boss Kevin Nolan, the pair coming together to help the club go from relegation looking certainties to mid-table respectability.
With survival achieved, Shola Ameobi believes the next step will be something potentially far better, with the forward saying that Nolan has created the ‘right atmosphere’ for him to thrive in.
In fact, according to Shola he has felt the love from everybody associated with the club ‘not just from the guys who feed us at the club, but right to the fans as well’.
Shola Ameobi speaking to the Nottingham Post – 9 July 2017:
“The fans have really been behind the team and myself from the get go.
“I felt the love from everyone, not just from the guys who feed us at the club, but right to the fans as well.
“I truly believe, that for me certainly, I have to be in the right atmosphere.
“If you are then it puts you in the best position to win.
“I felt that from day one.
“The manager (Kevin Nolan) has helped create that with the team and the lads all being together.
“I wanted to come back because I think we are on the cusp of something great.”
Kevin Nolan after Shola Ameobi agreed a new deal on 20 June 2017:
“Not only did Shola make a huge impact on the pitch and in the dressing room, but he is also a big hit with our supporters.
“When a player of the quality and experience of Shola Ameobi decides he wants to stay, it shows you are doing something right as a football club.
“It’s great that the players have bought into what we want to try and do here.
“We now have the rest of the summer to look at ways we can develop and improve the squad.”
