Prices announced for Newcastle’s Checkatrade Trophy game at Crewe – Hopefully bigger crowds…

The date of Newcastle United’s first ever Checkatrade Trophy match has been announced.

The NUFC reserve team will travel to Crewe on Tuesday 29 August with a 7.30pm kick-off.

Most of the crowds last season brought much ridicule on the competition, as Academy sides for the upper reaches failed to stimulate much interest (check out some of the crowds below)..

Newcastle have entered this year and yesterday they found out that the Magpies second string will be up against Oldham and Port Vale, as well as Crewe Alexandra, in this group stage.

Crewe Alexandra official announcement:

‘The details for Crewe Alexandra’s opening Checkatrade Trophy Group D match with Newcastle United have been confirmed.

The tie will take place at Alexandra Stadium on Tuesday 29 August, kick-off 7:30pm.

Tickets for the match are priced at £10 for adults, £6 for Seniors & £2 for Under 16’s.

Sales will commence from the Alexandra Ticket office on Monday 17 July from 9am in-store & by calling 01270 252610.

Crewe won the first group match of last year’s competition 3-0 at Accrington Stanley, eventually finishing third in the four team group after home defeats to Wolves & Chesterfield.

After Newcastle, Crewe will host Oldham & then travel to Port Vale before the top two in the group progress to the knock-out phase which starts in December.’

These are some of the crowds from the 2016/17 competition – this season the Academy sides, including Newcastle United, will play all their matches away from home.
