Hearts fans comment on losing to Newcastle and the visiting NUFC fans
Hearts fan watched their team lose 2-1 to Newcastle United on Friday night.
However, the general feeling in these comments appears to be that they were playing against quality opposition and put on a good show in the circumstances.
Interesting to see their comments about Newcastle supporters as well.
Jonjo Shelvey was one player who was singled out for special message.
Comments from Hearts fans via their top message board hmfckickback:
‘Just been chatting to a Newcastle fan in boozer. Good lad and they’re not happy with the lack of spending.’
‘They’ve hit the bar, scored and shaved the post all inside 5 minutes.’
‘The team we are playing is filled with opponents valued in the millions. Perspective is required.’
‘Let’s be honest here. if the toon can’t beat us, what hope do they have in EPL?’
‘Both goalkeepers playing like they know they’re not going to be first choice this year.’
‘Am I the only one who thinks we are playing brilliant against a top quality side???’
‘You probably are the only one.’
‘Woodman the other Newcastle keeper would be a good loan signing.’
‘Half time summary. Apart from first 10 minutes played well.
Newcastle keeper has made 4 or 5 great saves.
Score could be 4 – 5 to Newcastle.’
‘Shelvey is class.’
‘For them Shelvey is a class apart and the keeper is having a worldy. Decent game. Looking forward to 2nd half. Fair play to Toon fans too.’
‘Six subs for NUFC at half time:
On – Gámez, Dummett, Lejeune, Saivet, Pérez, Mitrović.
Off – Clark, Lascelles, Shelvey, Atsu, Aarons, Gayle.
I read that as taking off about 25-30m and putting on about 25-30m.’
‘Happy with that. Optimistic for the season ahead.
Newcastle fans were class tonight – good luck to them for the season ahead.’
‘A really good game tonight, we did well against a Newcastle side who were clearly up for the game from the start.
I must admit, after 5 minutes I thought we could be on the end of a hammering, which wouldn’t do our confidence any good. But we weathered the early storm, made adjustments and started to get into the game. We created a lot of chances and were probably unlucky not to take a draw, given we missed a penalty and Jack gifted them their second.’
‘Newcastle started with intent and it didn’t look good for us for 10 minutes or so. But we’ve come through a really good test against higher quality opponents.
That was what Cathro was looking for, to test the team against a better side, and he must be pleased at what he saw tonight.’
‘Just watched the goals back on HeartsTV.
Gayle didn’t really celebrate his goals. Is he trying to engineer a move away from Newcastle?’
‘I was impressed by that tonight and as far as friendlies go the first half was an entertaining game.
Newcastle started better, Shelvey was running the show – some of his passing was top class.
Credit to Cathro if, as it appeared to me anyway, he moved Nowak from the sweeper role to defensive midfield which tightened things up enough to enable us to get a foothold.’
‘Newcastle, for a team that only come back to training 2 weeks ago, they looked very good at times.
Most English Premier League players are big and strong, Newcastle have a couple of smaller guys as well but they’re very fast and strong on the ball.
Their keeper made a couple of top saves, we’ve played against Shelvey a couple of times now at Tynecastle and both times he’s been one of the best on the pitch, it shows the vast difference between the leagues, you could probably name 50 EPL midfielders better than him but if he played in Scotland, he’d be by far the best midfielder in the country. His range of passing is unreal, holds the ball well, a very under-rated player.
Gayle caused us some problems, he got in behind us a couple of times, I think that’s when we changed the shape of the team.
They didn’t look sharp, there was a few misplaced passes, but it was a good physical test for us, the chances we created in the first half would have been enough to beat almost every other team in the country.’
‘Played well against a strong Newcastle team – up to speed and playing at 100%, they’d body Celtic, let’s not kid ourselves on. Pace, movement and power of their players is well above anything up here.’
‘Didn’t realise how full the Wheatfield was tonight from the lower rows – ground in general was quite full, though a number of Geordies near me but good banter.’
