Friday afternoon has seen Sammy Ameobi confirmed as a Bolton player and the Bolton fans (read comments below) are ecstatic.

Released by Newcastle at the end of June, free agent Sammy has agreed a one year deal at the club he was on loan at in the first half of last season.

Not that I wanted NUFC to keep him but I must admit to feel a little envious of the Bolton fans who are so excited about a signing….

Sammy Ameobi:

“It feels great to be back. I’m very familiar with Bolton now.

“The gaffer was massive for me last season. He helped me rebuild my confidence and I believe he gets the best out of me.

“Everyone was patient with me and it gave me the opportunity to start playing again. I’m really thankful for that and hopefully I can repay them this season.”

Bolton manager Phil Parkinson:

“I am really delighted that we have got Sammy on board and we’ve worked really hard to get the deal done.

“Having worked with him last year, we know all about him. Sammy has something different to offer to what we have already got.”

Wanderers fans commenting via Bolton News:

‘Sammy will no doubt be a quality signing. Really looking forward to the new season.’

‘I’m very happy with that. We’re definitely in need of a bit of unpredictability and flair.

He can look a bit ‘Bambi on ice’ at times but we have very few players who can confidently run with the ball and Sammi certainly adds something we’ve been missing.’

‘Great signing the more goal scorers we can add to the team the better.’

‘He has 121 appearances since 2010 and scored 6 goals.’

‘Brilliant piece of transfer news and the best signing of the summer by some distance. It is also marvellous testimony to Parky that Sammy has chosen the Wanderers despite all of the off the field issues.

He can be a game changer on form, let’s hope it’s the player who smashed in the best goal in many years at the Macron that turns up and not the ‘Bambi on Ice’ his reputation can also bring.’

‘Well happy that we have him back.

With four right wingers now in the squad, I wonder if Sammy will be given a more central role this season.’

‘Excellent news, this is one I didn’t think would happen but I’m delighted that it has and I’m sure he will make a difference. Having a player who can do something different and excite fans is something we haven’t had since JJ.

Parky’s doing a phenomenal job and I’m now really looking forward to next season. With his strength and pace, who’s to say Parky won’t play him down the middle as a striker rather than out wide?’

‘Good call. I’m very happy to have Sammy on board also. Definitely offers something more attack minded. As others have said, let’s hope Parky can consistent performances from him week in, week out. If he can contribute with 10 to 15 goals he’ll be worth the money (salary, I mean).’

‘Excellent signing, really excited by Ameobi, we need creative players like him in the Championship if we are to open teams up alongside the solid straightforward players.

I don’t think we have anything to worry about with respect to him going missing in matches, he seems an intelligent bloke.’

‘Another great signing! Sammy could be a real talisman next season and yet another player who clearly WANTS to be at our club.’

‘That strike against Gillingham. I was sat right by the side of him when he struck that beauty. Unforgettable.’

Good luck Sammy. I hope you help Bolton win one of the promotion spots.

he`ll do a good job at level, best wishes

Good luck to him – hope that the move works out.

On another note, reports that we are to lose one of the youngsters in Lewis Gibson to Everton. It is said that he is one of the countries brightest prospects. What the hell is going on from within the walls of St James? Turmoil seems to be an understatement.

I’ve never seen Lewis but he must have something about him, Man U, Chelsea and Liverpool were all apparently interested in him at the beginning of the year.

His brother Liam is a real prospect as an attacking LB, but he is someone at 20yo who other teams will be monitoring if he doesn’t make a breakthrough in the next 18 months

That says a lot (other clubs interested) and I’m surprised that we are looking to allow him to move. Unless of course, he is makeweight in a deal to bring maybe McCarthy to the club?

Ameobi, obvious talent. Latest to be mismanaged in our youth (un)system.

”Bambi on ice” Do they not realise they have signed Shola from Notts County ?
