The funeral of Cheick Tiote has taken place on Sunday.
A memorial service had taken place on Tuesday in China as Beijing Enterprises FC staff and players paid tribute to their teammate, with Papiss Cisse and other China based players also attending.
The former Newcastle player’s body was then returned home and the service took place today in the Ivory Coast.
As well as family and friends of Cheick Tiote, The Mirror report that numerous dignitaries from the Ivory Coast were in attendance, including the prime minister, sports minister and football federation president.
One-time international teammates Kolo Toure and Wilfried Bony were also among the mourners.
Earlier in the day, former Newcastle teammate Papiss Cisse paid his own personal tribute.
Playing away at Liaoning Kaixin, the striker scored in a 3-0 victory for Shandong Luneng.
When the goal went in, Papiss Cisse revealed a t-shirt under his match shirt, containing the message: “I love you, Cheicky, forever Tiote.”
