Alan Pardew’s mate gets new job at Arsenal
Arsenal are having a bit of a shake-up in the backroom staff and former Newcastle coach & Alan Pardew’s best mate, Andy Woodman, has landed himself a new job.
The Mirror say that Woodman has now got the job of goalkeeping coach to the Arsenal Under 23 (reserve) team.
Last month, Andy Woodman sparked rumours of Alan Pardew returning to management after he (Woodman) resigned as boss of non-league Whitehawk FC after only three months in charge.
The pair have already been together at the likes of Charlton, West Ham, Newcastle and Crystal Palace, Woodman having followed his mate out of Selhurst Park after Pardew’s sacking in December.
However, recent days saw Alan Pardew interviewed and he indicated that he didn’t think a new job was imminent, instead saying that he was hoping to be considered for Premier League jobs once managers started to be sacked during the coming season.
The Mirror say that Andy Woodman landed the job ahead of another ex-Palace keeper, Perry Suckling, who was also on the shortlist.
Arsene Wenger has also seen first team keeper coach Gerry Peyton sign a new deal, whilst fitness coach Tony Colbert has been moved sideways in the reshuffle.
Colbert will now have a technical role in the coaching team due to the arrival of former Liverpool head of fitness Darren Burgess, who has been appointed the club’s director of high performance and will oversee the whole medical set-up.
Interesting to see if/when Alan Pardew does get a manager’s job in the coming season, whether Woodman packs in his Arsenal job and once again follows him to his new club.
