Newcastle United are going to be represented over in Italy today, with scouts reported to be watching Mattia Destro.

Bologna host Pescara on Sunday afternoon and Italian media organisation Tuttomercatoweb, says that both Newcastle and Watford will be represented, there to watch Destro.

The 26 year old striker has scored nine league goals this season, these coming in 25 starts plus two from the bench.

Mattia Destro has played for a handful of Italian clubs and joined Bologna from Roma for just over £5m in August 2015.

He has an excellent goals to starts ratio in Serie A, scoring 58 times in 125 starts (plus 47 off the bench).

The forward is an Italian international but the last of those appearances was back in 2014.

Bologna are currently 15th in Serie A but are safe from relegation.

If Newcastle do have genuine interest in the player then they should be easily able to offer Destro a better deal than his current one, with the finances of the average Italian club far weaker than their English counterparts, with the Serie A TV deals paying far less than is the case in the Premier League.

Good player, I’d be happy with him. Not too expensive either.

    • Clarko

How many times have you seen him play, how many games?

      • Megatron1505

I’d say probably about 15 or 20 times over the last couple of years. Quick, mobile, direct and not shy of a shot.

Apologies if you were looking for an argument.

        • GToon

          Is he big or small?

          • Mark Hennessey

I’d say he’s about Mitro’s height, maybe not as broad or as strong though.
He’s a good finisher, he’s had a really good year at Bologna with limited service. Initially looked great at Roma too.

My fear for him would the brief spell at Milan. Barely featured and when he did he seemed daunted by the task and fans’ expectations.

However, if the price is £7m as has been reported its relatively low risk in the current market.

Definitley not a 20 goals a season man.

Just curious, not looking for an argument as I have not seen him play much/if at all. Although I would hope that all strikers would not shy away from shooting? From the very little I have seen and from the research that I have done it seems as though the majority of his goals have came from poor goalkeeping. I personally wouldn’t describe him as “quick” or particularly “mobile”, but you have seen significantly more of him than me.

Good player and a good age.

Never heard of him but Rafael we trust

It’s over 6 weeks until the transfer window opens. Speculation about who Newcastle might sign has already become tedious.

Yup I really do wonder how all these rumours start ? I’m guessing some are fired up by agents of players and some by the selling club. However you’d have to be nuts, as a buying club, to send out these stories to alert all the competition to your intended target. Which is why 99% of this stuff is just BS

The window is effectively open now. Deals can be completed now, you just have to wait till 1st July to register new players with the FA. At least that’s my understanding of how it works.

Bang on the money with that mate!
