Newcastle 3 Barnsley 0  – Sunday 7 May 12 Noon

Elliott – 7

Had little to do but when called up on made two good saves at the end of the game.

Yedlin – 7

A much better performance defensively compared to what we have seen in recent weeks. Caused Barnsley massive problems with Atsu down the right hand side.

Mbemba – 9

Has been brilliant since coming back into the side. Must be kept next season for the Premier League!

Hayden – (Not on long enough)

Not enough for a rating but one of 5 or 6 who will most certainly be kept on this summer.

Dummett – 7

Another solid performance, has been brilliant since January. A new left back will be signed this summer but I won’t be disappointed if he starts the first game of next season at full back. Deserves another chance in the big league.

Colback – 9

Almost perfect performance in the holding role. Broke play up, provided an assist and put in one of his best shifts in an NUFC shirt.

Shelvey – 7

An uncharacteristic sloppy display but his class shone through with an incredible reverse pass to Atsu for the first goal. The best player in this squad by a million miles.

Gouffran – 7

Has redeemed his reputation at Newcastle this season. A consistent performer who has provided needed balance at times. Will leave this summer but a great contribution.

Perez – 10

Looked like a Premier League player today. He was our best player and a menace to the Barnsley defence. Needs to improve on the whole to be good enough next year but this performance should give us hope.

Atsu – 9

If the rumours of a £6.5 million clause are true then it’s a no brainer for me. He may be inconsistent but he tries to take his man on and consistently gives his opposite full back a problem. There won’t be many better players available for such a cheap price.

Mitrovic – 6 (and a half)

Provided an assist for Gayle’s goal and once again put himself about. However, he needs to start putting the ball in the back of the net. Love his heart, love his passion, but we will need him to score goals next season. End of story.

Haidara – 6

His final game for Newcastle, did look a little out of his depth but contributed nonetheless. Given us 4 good years. Things could have been different if it wasn’t for that McManaman tackle. Good luck to him.

Gayle – 7 (Only on 10 minutes but made an impact!)

Came on and scored. No surprise. Signing of the season.

Diame – Not on long enough

Rafa – 10

We have been lucky at times this season but you make your own luck! The best thing that’s ever happened to Newcastle United in a long long time.

Hard work starts now…
