England 3 Argentina 0 – Newcastle pair star in quality World Cup win, goal for Adam Armstrong
What a start for Adam Armstrong and Freddie Woodman as England kicked off in the finals of the Under 20 World Cup.
The tournament is being hosted by South Korea between 20 May and 11 June 2017, with 24 competing countries.
England are in Group A with South Korea, Argentina and Guinea.
England couldn’t have asked for a tougher start on Saturday morning (UK time) as Argentina provided the opposition.
However, a quality performance saw the Young Lions take Argentina apart, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin giving England the lead.
Newcastle’s Adam Armstrong scored the second, before Dominic Solanke added a third late on.
Video assistance is being trialled at this competition and a sly elbow was spotted and the ref on the pitch alerted, seeing Argentina reduced to 10 men when the score was already 2-0.
A brilliant day was completed when Newcastle’s Freddie Woodman ended the 90 minutes with a clean sheet.

England face Guinea next on Tuesday 23 May, then end the group games with a match against tournament hosts South Korea on Friday 26 May.
Great to see the two Newcastle players starring in this World Cup opener and it looks all but certain that both will be going out on another loan in August.
