A weird one for Newcastle United
This season is a weird one for Newcastle United, I don’t feel like I did last time we were in the championship.
If I can elaborate…last time was fun, we had a few highs and a few lows (West Brom 4 Newcastle 2), I couldn’t see anyone other than West Brom coming close.
After a torrid and eye opening pre-season (Leyton Orient 6 Newcastle United 1) our players either played at 100%, or left.
This season is odd, one in which we have had no confirmed (remember, up to now, this talk of Mike and Rafa not seeing eye to eye is so far rumour) off-field drama, great after what has gone before in recent years.
We have had only one on-field drama really with Jonjo Shelvey.
So this season: no drama, no catastrophe, just workmanlike performance after performance. No real outstanding run of overwhelming performances. Just plugging away.
In past seasons it’s been the old adage of which Newcastle United team turned up, one up for the game or the one who crumbles and packs it in, praying for the final whistle.
This must be Rafa’s plan, turn us into a unit who even on off days can beat Norwich 4-3 on running, ability and belief. A backbone which was lacking.
I can live without the drama (Although I do miss it sometimes…maybe Mitro can beat up Mike Ashley on his yacht when he doesn’t get a pay rise!).
If we continue doing what we are doing, which is being tough to beat and picking up points when we need to, we will be fine next season.
Just so long as I don’t have to guess which Newcastle turns up, I am a happy fella.
Long live the Rafalution!
