Sunderland fans have their big derby match to look forward to on Wednesday night.

It is the big one – the two very worst teams in the Premier League fighting it out for 19th and 20th place.

The battle to be this season’s ‘North East Top Dog’ has faded into insignificance though as Sunderland fans have been forced to watch the rise of Rafa Benitez and his team back to the Premier League.

The perfect outcome will see all three North East clubs swap divisions and sanity to return.

So how have the Mackems taken it?

Safe to say, not too well…

Comments from Sunderland fans via their top message board Ready To Go :

‘Looking forward to next season. I live for seeing Newcastle get beat.’

‘Back where they belong, apparently.’

‘We have a derby match tomorrow, it may not mean much as usual and it may not be against our biggest rivals, but its a derby match and a chance to have something to relatively be happy about.

However, all i’m seeing is posts about the mags. And we say they are obsessed with us

Haway the lads, lets show the smogs that we are the top dogs in the north east at least until next season haha.’

‘No N.E team will ever manage 3 consecutive seasons in the PL again.’

‘Got in the car to drive to work, Talksport was on the radio. Heard 2 bars of Mick Quinn’s voice and immediately switched stations.’

Already seen a Newcastle shirt being paraded in Kent….

Can of fosters in hand at around 7am.’

‘They will love staying up for the next 2-3 years but after that? They will want something more..something better. And if and when they don’t get it? They are too good to go down but aren’t good enough to do anything better.

Who is going to get the heat? Who do you think? The Patron Saint of Mags himself – Rafa Benitez.’

I work in Gateshead and there was one of them waiting for me this morning to tell me the delightful news!

Funny thing is i’ve been here six months and didnt know until this morning they were mags.

Straight out of the woodwork!’

‘Did they get promoted?

Must have missed that one. It’s not been mentioned on any media for at least 5 minutes.’

‘Back where they belong.’

No one belongs or deserves to be in the PL, even Man Ure, you have to earn the right.

They did however ‘deserve’ to get relegated as they were one of the 3 worst teams end of last season.’

‘Picked the Sun up this morning, thought it was the chronicle. Splashed all over front and back same as the mirror. Can’t remember them doing that for Brighton.’

‘Regional version. That won’t be on a copy of the sun in Plymouth for example.’

‘The game last night wasnt even a sell out.’

‘You certainly cant knock their attendances this season… clutchin at straws and all that.’

‘I don’t even rate Mitrovic as a Championship player. Terrible player.

Maybe if he spent more time on shooting practise rather than trimming his hair with a bowl on top of his head he would be a player.’

‘The way he split open that terrific Barcelona defence though.’

‘Holds the ball up,has a good touch and batters defenders for 90 mins. The same people claiming what a miss anichebe has been for doing less than that seem to ignore this simply because he plays for the mags.’

‘Will probably get about 6 goals if he plays the full 38 games next season.

The mags need to find a very good striker or 2 next season otherwise they won’t score enough to keep themselves up.

Gayle’s always injured and Perez is rubbish. Murphy is probably their best chance of goals next season which is both mental and funny at the same time.’

I always like it how they mention Net Spend.

Despite the fact they had to shell out an absolute wedge on existing players like Shelvey and Mitrovic, and players they’ve sold to fund this seasons signings in Wijnaldum, Sissoko (not as much) and Townsend.

Its not like they’ve sold academy players to fund it.’

‘I’d say anyone who finishes in the play offs will be stronger than us. Plus both other relegated teams.

It’s a poor league imo but there are teams in it who have been slowly building to get out of it. We will be starting from scratch with dour Dave.

It just fills me with dread. We won’t be back for at least 5 years and that’s being optimistic.’

‘Not worrying at all, our squad at present is far better than anything in the championship.’

Put the glue down.’

‘The mags had to sell there 4 best players. Plus they were a better side than our current lot. Unrealistic expect to keep the same squad.’

‘Newcastle had the luxury of buying promotion and they did it at the 1st attempt. We won’t have that luxury.’

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha losers!

    • mus

      well done agent charnley

  • Leazes Ender

There’s always the Sunlun Air show to look forward to….

    • Jezza

      Yes and the Seaburn illuminations.

  • Toon fan

I have never read such bitterness. Bless..

  • Desree

Poetic, we hade to sacrifice ourselves in order for the mackems to go down. Or we could have just stopped giving them 6 points every season and they would have been down years ago?

  • Andynufc

Hahaha let them be bitter. Think Sunderland will find the championship tougher then what nufc did. Especially with dour Moyes in charge. It’s all about nufc now. Massive summer ahead for the club. Everyone knows the team at present is good enough to get to the PL, just not good enough to stay there. Some players just aren’t good enough for Newcastle and quickly need moved on. Ashley needs give Rafa the freedom to transform this team again and just keep out of his way. Will Ashley’s ego of not interfering allow this tho? That’s my main worry as am sure other teams will be happy to oblige Rafa. Just going enjoy the fact we are now officially leaving this terrible league and will be returning to MOTD lol HWTL ⚫️⚪️

“Got in the car to drive to work, Talksport was on the radio”

“Picked the Sun up this morning”

Those two comments say it all about the mentality of the people we are dealing with here.

    • Kneebotherm8

He’s just bragging or lying, one of the few mackems who’ve got a job.

      • HappyToons

One of the few mackems that can read and also has more than one deformed lug, impressive.

        • Jimblag23

And one who’s got 30p for the sun.

    • David Richards

Spot on – nobody should read the Sun!!!!

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

They should sign some proven championship players, Anita, Colback, Gouffran & Diame ha ha ha
The daft [email protected]@k`as had to get a Geordie for their moment of fame & his Statue`s outside the ground

    • Bob Fenwick

  • Toonbadger

My hatred for that lot doon the road could not have increased more after reading those comments. They are so much more interested in what we are than their own National league bound team are.
    Poor deluded six toed inbreds

    • Jezza

It has to be said that the biggest celebrations Sunderland fans have enjoyed over the past 40 odd years have all been based on Newcastle’s misfortunes rather than anything their own team have achieved. Don’t let them get to you. I don’t hate them, I just pity them and laugh at them in equal measure.

    • James

Totally agree they get more hyped about what we dee rather than their bog standard national league bunch

    • Max

Not a bad comment from a half baked Geordie simpleton. Listen, we are not the ones with the pathetic superiority complex. It is you clowns. You will be swapping places with us next season. Enjoy it whilst you can. The Fat Controller will soon bring you back down to earth with his moronic Action Plan for next season. You gormless deluded throwback.

      • Toonbadger

Clap Clap Clap, Ha Ha Ha Ha. Rolling about laughing. More than 1 sentence strung together and decent punctuation. The only thing I get reading this is a picture of a baboon hanging upside down in a tree scratching it`s bo££ox. Now that’s a throwback

  • Albert Stubbins

    ha ha ha!!! SMB’S

  • DC1964

Haa, the mackems are getting their comeuppance!!!!

  • Gm74

Tell u wot the makems are in for a shock how good the teams are in the championship……yeah it wasn’t a sell out last night just over 50 k …a lot more that sit in the washed out pink seats

  • GToon

I think the most disappointed mackem fan was Sky’s very own Don Goodman. He spent the whole of the game saying how nervous we looked and how the crowd were disgruntled. When the fourth went in he then spent all of his time saying the result wasn’t a true reflection of the game. What a total joke. We turned the sound down on him and his moronic companion.

    • Jimblag23

Sky always do this, Goodman in the championship and Quinn in the prem.
How about a geordie on the pay roll sky, it’s annoying listening to their bias drivel.

Don Goodmans autobiography is called The Don. That’s amusing.
Maybe in his own household but in no other sphere whatsoever.

      • Andy Mac

Try listening to the tanned fanboy on Talkshite. Gray spent almost the whole morning questioning whether there would be money for Rafa to spend or whether he’d fark off ? I suggested he should worry more about where the makems will get two pennies to rub together next season ?

    • Andy Mac

As bad as that terwatt Prutton. Why do Sky bother ?

  • gallowgate26

Do any of them want to buy a radio? Coz they’ll need one for next season! ha ha

  • Colin Hamilton

They will realize just how tough championship is now compared to when they was there total muppets.

  • Andy Mac

The sad thing is that it feels like we wont be expoeriencing another TW derby for some time to come ? Unless they suddenly find a buyer with bottomless pockets and a fondness for cheesy chips ?

  • Tino o

Guess we’ll be seeing plenty of pink seats on channel 5 next season smb!

  • Tino o

    Sorry won’t be watching it

  • Blackburn1066

The Makems are F—ed next season they will see how things have changed in the Championship, If they don’t get in the players that have the skill to drag them back up they are as I said F—ED.

  • GToon

If the mackems lose their next two games the most they could get is 33 points if they won their last four games (which they won’t). Hull currently occupy 4th bottom spot on 33 points so if they get a point it could be all over for them on April 29th, this Saturday! Come on Bournemouth!!!

    • Kneebotherm8

Sharper we get the flyover at the stadium of Shyte, the better.

  • love toon despite

I still love the picture of those losers at the top of the page………makes me laugh every time I look at it.
BTW loved the song last night….”going up, going down, going up going down….Ncastle going up sunlan going down etc

    • Phil K

Makems did it last year other way round of course.

  • Sing in the Leazes

Wouldn’t surprise me if they did ok next season.
They always seem to in that league for some reason.
And I suspect most of their squad will feel more comfortable at that level and will probably perform better as a result.
No major squad upheaval expected so apart from the #sadfailing manager no big bruised egos to nurse.
    They might surprise people.

    Or hopefully not.

    • Phil K

They’ll do an Aston Villa next season from the 1st half, and 2nd half like Huddersfields last 4 or 5
In other words their attention won’t be on promotion
The Smoggies will be no better

  • Toon Army AZ

Every hero needs a villain, so it will be sad to see them go down. But I’ll get over it…

  • Phil K

Love that little quip about Mitrovic should spend more time practicing getting shooting on target than cutting his hair with a pudding bowl !

  • Daniel Brady

Remember the similar photo from last season with the junior Mackem holding up a “Let’s all laugh at Newcastle” poster with big smile on his and all around him faces. You’re not laughing now are you? You 6 toed little muppet. What games roond comes roond. 😜
