Newcastle v Leeds, would you play Daryl Murphy, Aleksandar Mitrovic, or both of them?

Or indeed neither of them?

Newcastle fans still await the results of tests/scans that were carried out on Dwight Gayle on Monday following his enforced substitution from the Sheffield Wednesday match.

Official Newcastle United Statement – Monday 10 April 2017:

Newcastle United can confirm that Dwight Gayle sustained a hamstring strain in his right leg during United’s 2-1 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Dwight is currently undergoing tests to determine the severity of his injury so it is not yet known how long the player may be out injured.’

However, even if the striker is back before the end of this season, surely there is no chance of Gayle starting on Friday night.

That leaves Rafa Benitez with the dilemma of who to play up front.

Daryl Murphy has recently been selected both in the team and on the bench ahead of Aleksandar Mitrovic.

However, the number 45 came on at Sheffield Wednesday and looked quite sharp in a brief cameo, setting up Shelvey’s goal when chesting the ball down and the keeper unable to hold his initial shot.

Those final 12 minutes saw Mitrovic and Murphy on the pitch together for a rare brief occasion.

The only time they have started a match in the same team was the away FA Cup game at Birmingham, where after only a few minutes Murphy scored the opening goal AND Mitrovic ended up being carried off with a nasty looking leg injury received in the melee as the ball went in the net.

Alternatively, if not wanting to use Murphy or Mitrovic alone or together, we are also offering the choice below of some other formation – presumably in that case either Perez or Gouffran would play furthest forward.

So please vote below and we will bring the results later.
