Siem de Jong does something for first time since November 2013
Siem de Jong revealed this weekend that Rafa Benitez keeps in touch with him by text.
The Newcastle midfielder on loan at PSV for the season but insistent he sees his future still at Newcastle and hoping to be playing for NUFC in the Premier League next season.
The next time the two of them swap texts, at least Siem de Jong will have something to report back to his boss at St James Park.
Saturday saw a significant event as firstly the Newcastle loan player started a game for PSV, the first time in over three months.
Not only that but he actually scored, twice (watch them below)!
PSV beat Roda JC 4-0 to move to only three points behind second placed Ajax, Siem de Jong’s old club play Sunday afternoon at Groningen.
Feyenoord currently lead the table with 63 points, then Ajax 58, PSV 55 and then a 15 point gap to Utrecht in a distant fourth.
Siem de Jong scored in the 32nd and 71st minutes, PSV’s second and fourth goals.
This is the first time the Newcastle player has managed two goals in a game since scoring twice for Ajax in a 3-0 win at NEC on 10 November 2013, some three and a half years ago.
In between the two doubles, de Jong has managed only five other league goals, including one in his two seasons ‘playing’ for Newcastle United.
After scoring his second goal and the final one of the match, Siem de Jong was then subbed in the 75th minute, no reports as yet of any injury…
