Shame that spirit of Ipswich Town’s Sir Bobby Robson day doesn’t extend to Newcastle fans

Ipswich Town have declared that Monday 17 April is ‘Sir Bobby Robson’ day.

That day Ipswich host Newcastle United, the two English clubs he is most identified with as a Manager.

It will be only the second meeting at Portman Road between the two clubs since his sad passing in 2009, that previous clash coming in the last promotion season when a hat-trick from Kevin Nolan and one from Ryan Taylor gave United an excellent 4-0 away victory.

In honour of the occasion (and to fill up their ground), Ipswich are offering all of their season ticket holders the chance to buy up to four extra tickets for only £10 each (adults), with tickets as low as £3 for Under 16s.

Ipswich Town announcement:

‘Sir Bobby Robson Day – Monday, April 17th – Season Ticket offer

Season ticket holders can purchase up to 4 additional tickets for £10 each (£8 concessions, £3 Under 16s)’

Sadly, the spirit of Sir Bobby Robson day hasn’t been extended to Newcastle fans…

As well as a round trip of almost 600 miles, Newcastle fans are being asked to pay £32.50 adults, £23 OAPs, £22 young adults, £11.50 Under 16s.

(Newcastle away tickets for Ipswich are currently on sale to season ticket holds with 50 or more points.)

Those prices (for Newcastle fans) are also higher than ordinary Ipswich fans need to pay, with them charging pre-matchday (on day of match prices go up £2.50) prices from:

Adults £27.50, Senior/Student/ £19, Under 20 £18, Under 16 £11.50, Under 16 (Family area) £8.50.

So if you are a Newcastle fan living down in Suffolk, get one of your mates who is an Ipswich season ticket holder to get you four tickets and you and your friends/family can save up to £90 (4 x £10 = £40 instead of 4 x £32.50 = £130).
