Paul Merson couldn’t believe what he was watching today.

Saying that Newcastle just didn’t get going whereas ‘Fulham started very well’, then they went on and controlled the match.

So poor were the home side that Paul Merson declaredIf you didn’t know football you would never in your wildest dreams think Newcastle were 15/20 points ahead of Fulham.’

Newcastle started the day 20 points ahead but now it is 17 points between themselves and Fulham, the West London side moving to within two points of the play-off spots.

As for NUFC, they are ahead of Brighton only on goal difference and six ahead of Huddersfield, who have a game in hand.

It might stick in the throat to agree with Paul Merson but when he says ‘Newcastle just don’t start quick enough, you want them to bombard teams and get on top of them’, not many supporters would disagree, certainly in home games.

Paul Merson speaking to Sky Sports:

“Newcastle just didn’t get going.

“You get days like that in the Championship, or any place, but it wasn’t good. Just didn’t get going.

“I thought Fulham started very well and it just didn’t happen for them (Newcastle).

“You are watching the game and if you didn’t know, you’d be thinking how are they top of the league? How are they top?

“Their main players like Shelvey and Ritchie didn’t do anything, you know what I mean? It wasn’t good.

“Cairney picks it up 25 yards out and Darlow doesn’t stop that.

“Fulham are a good team and they just kept breaking away.

“Ryan Sessegnon – I wouldn’t mind being his agent.

“Fair play to the crowd, they stayed virtually right to the end. It wasn’t like ’60 minutes – see you later’.

“Newcastle just don’t start quick enough.

“You want them to bombard teams and get on top.

“The longer this goes on the other team are thinking ‘fifty thousand people, this is lovely’. Passing it around, every game is a cup final (for Newcastle).

“If you didn’t know football you would never in your wildest dreams think Newcastle were 15/20 points ahead of Fulham.”

Sack Rafa & bring in Merse

Mr Soak sadly on the button for once. You cannot give half decent teams 70% possession. To be set up at home to almost intentionally do it beggars belief. Had Parsnip or McNugget done this they’d be being flayed in street as we speak. Rafa has got a lot right this is not one of them.

Anyone looking at Paul Merson would never think he was a plonky.

    Sssshhhhh

For once I agree with the alchoholic

He’s right Fulham played us off the park..
But have to say we were just awful.
    Diame didn’t look interested today.
Gayle had no service or help upfront.
Anita?? where was he? they had so much space down left side.
Big win needed next week at Brum.

This type of result has been coming for a while at home. The formation nufc use is best suited to play away from home, hence why they’ve got such a good record. At SJP when the home team is expected to be on the front foot from the start, we struggle possession wise. Teams know this and come to SJP knowing the can get a result. 4-5-1 isn’t working at home. It’s worrying especially since Brighton and Huddersfield are picking points up and are playing the best football. Still confident tho that nufc will gain automatic promotion. HWTL

Maybe we haven’t got players who can play in front of 50,000…. it would explain home and away form!

    • Correct, lots of them feel very nervous behind this crowd. That’s why they need to go.
I think that the biggest flop was Anita, he’s absolutely useless when facing a classier opponent, be it defending or on the attack. Simply not good enough, even for a top 6 Championship side in my books.
Colback never really troubles the creative midfield players, can’t pass, can’t shoot, not good in the air.
These two players simply should never be on the pitch.
Give Barlaser and Jesus Gamez a run of games, surely won’t be worse than Anita and Colback. Sick of feeling like playing with 10 men out there.

Throw Diame into the mix as well – he had been a passenger more often than not.
