Newcastle v Reading player ratings by fans – Usual suspects shine

The results of the Newcastle v Reading player ratings by fans.

The end of a draining week on the road, not least for the travelling Newcastle fans forced to travel to both Brighton and Reading in midweek – within seven days of each other. Around four and a half thousand Newcastle supporters also watched on the beamback in various bars at St James Park.

Those fans saw Newcastle put up a solid display and make it seven points from nine, though United were the ones who edged this Reading clash, despite what the possession stat says.

Not the highest set of marks this season but no surprise to see who heads the rating from fans, with Ciaran Clark (7.2) coming up trumps yet again, helping Newcastle to their 15th Championship clean sheet of the season.

Back in great form after the odd wobble, Karl Darlow (6.9) was rated next best, even though Reading only managed one effort on target. The keeper dealing with everything else in commanding fashion.

Paul Dummett (6.7) got another thumbs up from the watching Newcastle fans, giving another steady committed performance.

Fourth best was the player who came closest to breaking the deadlock, Matt Ritchie (6.6) giving a trademark busy performance and hitting the post.

Only three other players scored 6.0 or better, with Jesus Gamez (6.5) slotting in well at right-back in only his second league start for Newcastle.

Whilst Jonjo Shelvey (6.3) found the poor pitch a bit of a hindrance and Daryl Murphy (6.0) often lacked support so had to plough a lone furrow.

This left four players rated as the weaker performers with Jamaal Lascelles (5.8) not at his best alongside Ciaran Clark, whilst Perez (5.4), Gouffran (5.0) and Colback (5.0) struggled to impose themselves.

Below are the ratings as voted by Newcastle fans up to 7pm on Tuesday:
