Newcastle v Brighton player ratings by fans – Tells the story

The results of the Newcastle v Brighton player ratings by fans.

After having some moments against Norwich and Bristol City he’d rather forget, Karl Darlow (7.5) responded with an excellent display against Brighton, making a series of decent saves that kept United in it, before that dramatic last 10 minutes that turned the match around.

However, he still had one heart stopping moment only for Paul Dummett (7.3) to react with a brilliant clearance off the line. The left-back rated second highest marks and far ahead of the rest of the back four, him keeping Knockaert quiet was arguably a decisive factor in how the game turned out.

Sharing that 7.3 rating was Christian Atsu who helped create both goals, the first a shot that went well astray but then connected with Mohamed Diame and into the top corner, the second though a brilliant take down from Ritchie’s gorgeous 60 yard pass and then Atsu picking out Perez superbly for the shot that won the game.

Speaking of Mohamed Diame (5.4) despite his goal of the season effort he was pretty woeful, fans giving him that lowest of all 5.4 rating along with Yoan Gouffran, who contributed little in terms of quality up front and messed up a one on one with the keeper.

Also rated once again as one of the weakest was Jack Colback (5.8), an ineffective display and the first subbed off as Rafa brought Daryl Murphy on to try and save/win(!) the match.

Matt Ritchie (7.2) Jonjo Shelvey (7.0) were two of only five starters to get 7.0 or higher, suggesting this was a great win but not a particularly great performance. One where hard work was the biggest contribution on the day.

Ciaran Clark (6.9) was then next best and then Lascelles (6.7) and Yedlin (6.4) put in whole-hearted efforts at the back.

The substitutes weren’t on the pitch very long but made big impressions, Murphy (7.2) proving a handful when he came on and at last a real focus for Newcastle’s attacks, whilst Perez (7.4) of course came up with that cool excellent finish to win the contest.
