Newcastle midfielder joins Tim Krul and Siem de Jong in Holland with trial at Eredivisie club

News in from Holland on Thursday morning, that FC Twente have agreed to take Newcastle’s Haris Vuckic on a week’s trial.

Steve McClaren’s former club are taking a look at the midfielder with a view to signing him when his contract ends in June at St James Park.

Joining Newcastle United as a much talked about 16 year old in January 2009, Haris Vuckic looked an exciting prospect.

However, eight years later the Slovenian international hasn’t made it in the upper levels of English football and needs to get his career back on track.

TC Tubantia report that he has caught the eye of FC Twente’s coaching staff and they hope he can make the grade in Holland.

Making sporadic appearances over those eight years, mostly in cup competitions, the only goal for Haris Vuckic cam when he scored the winner against Atromitos in the Europa League.

Numerous loan spells with Cardiff, Rotherham, Wigan, Cardiff and Bradford never really went anywhere and it was only at  Rangers in the Scottish second tier that he really blossomed, scoring some spectacular goals in the 2014/15 season.

His lack of pace/mobility always meant it was difficult to see him succeeding in the top tier of English football but he does have ability and hopefully Haris Vuckic will find his place in Dutch football.
