Match ratings of all United players after Brighton 1 Newcastle 2

Brighton 1 Newcastle 2  – Tuesday 28 February 7.45pm

Darlow 6 – Made a few saves in the game but all ones you’d expect him to save. Looked hesitant and nervous at times, poor distribution put us under a lot of pressure.

Yedlin 7 – A much improved performance defensively. Took less risks at the back. Almost as if he was told “if in doubt clear it out” was the plan for the night.

Lascelles 7 – Was still caught on his heels a few times as per usual, and didn’t help Darlow with poor passing on several occasions, but a solid display nonetheless.

Clark 7 – Another solid display, despite giving away the penalty, which on the replay doesn’t look anywhere close to a penalty for me.

Dummett 9 – Newcastle’s best player on the night. Kept Knockaert quiet for most of the night and was as solid as can be. Probably his best performance in a Newcastle shirt.

Colback 6 – A disappointing performance again in my opinion. Unfortunately for him, Newcastle look a better team lately when Diame is played deeper. I want him to improve and do well but for me at the moment he’s doing all the wrong things.

Shelvey 7 – Quiet for 60 minutes, and crowded out of the game, but came alive and drove Newcastle forward in the last half hour.

Atsu 8 – Looked like he was just about everywhere: on the left, right, through the middle. His pace caused Brighton a load of problems… And his assist for the second goal can’t be underestimated.

Diame 6 – He was woeful for the first 70 minutes but once Murphy came on and Diame pushed further back, he started to control the game more and have an impact. He obviously meant his goal too.

Ritchie 7 – A moment of magic from Ritchie won us the game with his incredible long range pass to Atsu before Perez scored. A good display from him.

Gouffran 5 – Did nothing all night in my opinion, except miss a gilt edge chance to grab us an equaliser. Offers nothing up front.

Murphy 8 – Changed the dynamic of the game when came on. Will definitely go down in history as a ‘nothing signing’ if he leaves at the end of the season and only plays 10 games – but those of us who have been there this year will know how key he has been in picking up some of our biggest points this season.

Perez 8 – A brilliant finish for the winner, luckily for us the ball fell to the player on the pitch you would have wanted it to!

If there was ever a night where we have learned to just trust Rafa, it was last night.
