Third in the table, a sell out crowd, realistic chance of getting automatic promotion, biggest ever league crowd at their stadium…and they are playing Newcastle United, no wonder Huddersfield fans are more than just a little bit excited!
Today’s 5.30pm kick-off has all the makings of a great game, so no wonder the home supporters (and a few away ones…) are itching for the occasion to come around.
David Wagner has transformed the club’s fortunes and given them a very real chance of Premier League football next season.
Huddersfield fans are clearly worried about one player in Newcastle’s squad but have absolute confidence in their Head Coach and players.
The home supporters are guaranteeing a great atmosphere, let’s see what happens to that if Newcastle play to their potential…
Huddersfield fans talking about the upcoming Newcastle clash, comments via their top message board DownAtTheMac:
‘Come on Town, let’s have the Geordie big heads.’‘Dwight Gayle is injured though isn’t he?’
‘He’s just back from a hamstring injury, The Waiter said he’s been training, is sharp and should start today.’
‘Oh… he’s the one player they have that I am bothered about.’
‘Hopefully he tweaks his hammy in the first five minutes and they send on Mitrovic! Gayle could be a real threat in the break.’
‘I’m confident we will out play them. If we can take our chances and the ref isn’t too hopeless, the points are there for the taking, even taking into account the fact that the Toon have a strong away record.’
‘It’s a must win game, we lose and Brighton win that’s 12 and 9 points respectively we are behind. We won’the be able to overhaul that unless one of them has a major collapse in form.
I’m confident we’ll win this one though to keep up the pressure on the top two.’
‘I certainly don’t see us being as lacklustre as Brighton were. I thought Newcastle played quite narrow the other night and I really think we can exploit them out wide.
‘I’m amused that Newcastle have only been given 1800 tickets they would probably argue that they could fill the ground
“Would be funny if they were greeted with ‘is that all you take away’.’
‘I don’t think it’s a must win but I do think if we want to catch one of the top 2 it’s a must not lose game.
I think we have a great chance of doing the double over them though. I think we have a better team now than we did when we last played them assuming everyone is available.
I can not believe how fortunate they were against Brighton. The equalizer was a very strange goal although they deserved a draw at least.
Heart says win, head says not sure but think we will get a draw or better.’
‘A return to our Brighton output should be enough to outclass an average Newcastle team ( not average individuals). Mooy finally back to form outclassing Shelvey the poseur.’
‘It’ll come down to our finishing imo. Must put chances away when on top. Come on boys. Not looked forward to a game this much for years.’
‘Been nervous about this all bloody week!’
‘65% on here say we will win and yet the bookies think it is a 30% chance.’
‘I have a feeling for a good Town performance but a lucky 2-2 draw for the toon. Can’t wait!’
‘Decent fans these (Newcastle supporters). On the whole from what I have heard and read they are respectful towards our Club and what we have done so far this season.’
‘More excited for this than I was for Leeds or Man City.’
‘As a rival fan it does feel like an inanimate carbon rod could manage that Newcastle squad to the premier league. The fact that they aren’t running away with it doesn’t really reflect favourably on Rafa.
‘Although we could argue villa have spent more (I think) and look at them.’
‘’Expect around 23,300 or so, 1,200 short of full capacity due to segregation and the Sky TV ‘studio’ located in the Kilner south end.
I dare say newcastle could have brought around 10,000 for this if we had the capacity.
Can’t imagine the noise in the stadium with the FML full of away fans like Newcastle’s and the SS full of the barmy army aka the NSL…’
‘Buzzing for it now under the lights.’
‘Even though we made 9 changes midweek against City, I think Newcastle will come to harass us and give us no time on the ball just like City did, which led to us giving possession away cheaply on numerous occasions.’
‘The fact Benitez has such an enormous financial advantage over all his competitors, yet is miles short of coasting the division, shows he is nothing like the best manager in the division.
Him and Wagner started at their clubs at more or less the same time… so give him what wagner had to start with and the money wagners had to work with, and see if he’d have his team in 3rd pushing for automatic!! Don’t think so somehow!’
‘I keep seeing this “Newcastle have the best away record”. Yeah…because they still have to play almost everyone in the top 6 away from home… it’s just common sense that they would have a the best away record if they haven’t played the best teams away yet.’
‘The geordies forget quickly, they were playing in front of small numbers not that long ago… They also forget that this season the Town support, even those who dont come all that often, are coming to watch us, not Newcastle United..
I have to be honest, I have been fairly dissappointed since coming back into this division in the quality and standard of most of the relegated ‘big teams’.
The idea that home crowds turn out in large numbers to watch the away team is maybe a bit of a myth now..’
‘The fa cup has helped us in the end as our boys have all had 6 days off whereas geordies had a fairly hard game and a long trip Tuesday.
If Newcastle play well it’ll be a tight game I think..fine margins can be the difference. If town start as we did against Brighton then it’ll just be a case of how profligate we are.
One of these days we are going to properly thump someone. It should’ve been the Brighton game…maybe we’re saving it for the big one!’
‘Was speaking to a Newcastle fan yesterday travelling down in a group of 10 to go in one of the hospitality boxes on Saturday – he was extremely confident even before their game at Brighton (he said) and even more so now.
He cant see past a comfortable win for the Toon on Saturday. I cant wait to find out.’
‘The noise on Saturday with half the crowd that St James Park gets will be x10 what we heard up there in August. It was like a library.’
‘A sell out game. Never would have thought this possible, looking forward to the amazing atmosphere.’
‘Newcastle makes for some pretty funny reading. Stuff like this: “I’m not worried about the other teams at all. They’re all tinpot clubs we should beat 4-0 every week.”
‘They won’t admit it, but I reckon most Newcastle fans will think like that. I reckon the manager and players will as well. The owner definitely.
Its the biggest reason they might fail.
The pressure on them as the season end gets closer will be immense.’
‘We are going to stuff them on tv, We destroyed Brighton.
