Fulham keeper says he enjoyed watching his teammates beat Newcastle

Daryl Murphy scored an excellent consolation goal but apart from that, David Button was a virtual spectator throughout the 90 minutes.

Newcastle chasing shadows in midfield and offering next to no threat up front.

A statistic (see below) of only 38% possession actually flattered Newcastle United, as they weren’t even really in the game to that extent.

Watching on along with the one and a half thousand or so Fulham supporters, was David Button.

The goalkeeper impressed with what he was watching..’It was a pleasure to watch, the lads were brilliant from start to finish’.

During the 90 minutes, the game was summed up by the number of times I watched David Button doing some exercises whilst the ball was actually in play.

As the outfield players played keep ball, the visiting keeper was doing exercises to keep himself alert.

Fulham arrived at St James Park top of the recent form league and David Button claims that he was ‘confident that we would win’, though he does admit his surprise at how easy it was – ‘but I don’t think anybody expected us to go three up away at a place like that.”

David Button:

“It was a pleasure to watch, the lads were brilliant from start to finish and we deserved the win.

“I was confident that we would win and give them a good game but I don’t think anybody expected us to go three up away at a place like that.

“So credit to everyone involved and hopefully we can use this as a springboard for the rest of the season.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t keep a clean sheet today, but everything else was pretty solid.

“Hopefully the team have confidence in me and that allows them to focus on their own game.

“As has been the case a lot this season, the amount of ball we have and the way we play, means I won’t have a load to do.

“So I just need to concentrate and make sure I am there whenever I’m called upon.”
