The predicted Newcastle team v Wolves
Here is the predicted Newcastle team v Wolves that I think Rafa Benitez will choose for Saturday’s late afternoon kick-off.
At his Friday press conference, Rafa Benitez completely ruled out only Rolando Aarons and Vurnon Anita from potential selection for Wolves.
However, despite Dwight Gayle joining in with training again, it sounded as though he won’t be featuring either .
With Norwich away from home only three days later, the United boss may also have one eye on that, but surely he will be throwing everything at this match against Wolves.
Starting at the back, I can’t see Rafa deviating much, if at all, from his keeper and back four last Saturday.
Grant Hanley came in and did everything asked of him, so I can’t imagine Jamaal Lascelles will march straight back in after a place on the bench and late sub appearance against Derby.
Whilst Jonjo Shelvey will undoubtedly be a target for both Wolves fans and potentially players as well, you can’t imagine either Manager or playmaker wanting to give this one a body swerve.
There is a chance Jack Colback could come in but I can’t see past Isaac Hayden alongside Shelvey, assuming he is fully fit.
Matt Ritchie is a shoe-in, finding his form and goals once again makes him invaluable.
Likewise, Mohamed Diame produced a very good performance against Derby, far in excess of anything we saw from Perez whilst AFCON too the Senegal player away.
Also returning from Gabon, Christian Atsu was in excellent personal form and made the team of the tournament, so great to keep his confidence going with a place ahead of Gouffran. The Frenchman doing a lot of running but little end product.
Up front, it looks a straight race between Murphy and Mitrovic, the Serbian got his chance last week but had a largely ineffective display v Derby, so I think Daryl Murphy will be back to try and build on his two goals goals against Rotherham and Brentford and generally impressive form.
