The predicted Newcastle team v Bristol City

Here is the predicted Newcastle team v Bristol City that I think Rafa Benitez will choose for today’s game.

Don’t shoot the messenger, I only bring you my opinion!

Rafa Benitez has said that he won’t be thinking ahead of today’s match when it comes to his team selection against Bristol City.

However, I do think we could see the odd surprise when the United boss reveals his team, with Tuesday night’s game at Brighton in mind.

Today’s opponents can’t of course be taken lightly but surely Brighton away represents the toughest game of the season.

Whilst Rafa has said it is possible that Dwight Gayle could be available for Tuesday night, he surely wouldn’t start with him, so the Manager must be thinking Aleksandar Mitrovic will have to start on the south coast.

Not the most mobile at the best of times, I can’t see the Serbian at his best if he turns out today as well.

So I think Daryl Murphy could be drafted in for another start. With only two starts and 214 Championship minutes on the pitch in total this season, his all round play and two goals against Rotherham and Brentford point to him being more than capable of leading the line against Bristol City.

Another player Rafa Benitez may look after today is Matt Ritchie.

If the Scottish international is booked today, he would then miss Brighton after racking up 10 yellows. I think the bench beckons today.

With only six league starts, Christian Atsu can count himself very unlucky and he must be desperate for his chance and wouldn’t let anybody down if facing Bristol City.

Elsewhere I don’t see many changes, with the usual back five in place and Colback & Shelvey in the middle.

Gouffran is clearly a Rafa mainstay (in this division anyway) but Perez could be another change after Mohamed Diame contributed little against Aston Villa.
