Official media partner dubious claims: Rafa Benitez in line to replace Arsene Wenger

Rafa Benitez is set to take over from Arsene Wenger this summer at The Emirates.

The current Newcastle boss has lined up Thierry Henry as an assistant ahead of moving to North London.

That is of course, if you believe Newcastle United’s official media partner, The Mirror.

Their latest dubious exclusive sees them name Rafa Benitez as Arsenal’s England-based candidate, with the other ones the Gunners also have an eye on being: Borussia Dortmund’s Thomas Tuchel, Luis Enrique (Barcelona) and rank outsider Leonardo Jardim (Monaco).

This ‘exclusive’ is on the back of Arsene Wenger reportedly at last finally having enough of the whingeing Arsenal fans, who yet again are in revolt because they haven’t won a trophy in the past week.

Currently joint second in the Premier League with Tottenham, behind leaders Chelsea, Arsenal supporters are desperate to be rescued from this dismal era of failure.

It is a massive 18 months since they last won a trophy (Charity Shield in August 2015) and the Gunners have only picked up four pieces of silverware in the last two and a half years (2 x FA Cups & 2 x Charity Shields).

To compound the misery of only being joint second in the Premier League, Arsenal fans next have to endure the first leg of a last 16 Champions League tie against some unknown German club called Bayern Munich, before they then play Sutton United in the FA Cup – a tie which basically guarantees then the misery of yet another last eight in the premier domestic cup competition.

The chances of Rafa Benitez being Arsenal’s Manager in August is probably about as likely as fans of the North London club ever appreciating what they have got.

When they eventually succeed in forcing Arsene Wenger out of the job, it will be truly marvellous to see their total meltdown, when they face the reality of what true football misery is – finishing fifth under Wenger’s replacement.
