Norwich 2 Newcastle 2 – Tuesday 14 February 7.45pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle:

Leazes Park Ender:

“I think we’ll just have to say that’s not a bad point given the errors that left us trailing 2-1 for so long in the game.

“It was a Valentine’s night with not much love until skipper Lascelles atoned for his earlier blunder and levelled it at 2-2.

“It’s a story of Newcastle dominating possession. Twenty shots and we hit the bar as well.

“It could have easily been 0-2 after five minutes following Perez’s perfect start to the game for the travelling fans.

“Karl Darlow can reflect on a major error, nay a howler, but let’s back the lad. He can bounce back from this.

“Four points from two tricky away games on paper. We’re battling hard to stay ahead of that chasing pack.”

Jamie Smith:

“I genuinely would have taken that pre-match.

“Norwich are in imperious form at home and a point there is not bad at all.

“Real clanger from Darlow but I still think he’s a class keeper – every goalie has their howlers.

“Lascelles remedied his error with a Van Basten-Esque equaliser and hopefully quelled the internet hysteria before it got really going.

“Our rivals may have done better in their far easier games, but we will have the benefit of a smoother run-in after this month.

“Next step has to be two wins against poor sides at SJP next week to set us up for a week of battles with our fellow top four dwellers. Huge.”

Paul Lyon:

“Couldn’t fault the lads for how they played, only individual errors costing us all three points.

“Would’ve taken a point before the game, the way scores were elsewhere a point was looking a very good result but content with that, with a couple of winnable home games coming up.

“Still top of the pile, keep digging in and sticking together we’ll finish there!”

Nat Seaton:

“Thought we did well to come back from the two terrible goals.

“Enjoyed the match, I thought we were the better team and we played a bit better than we have for a while (nightmare goals aside).

“Bring on our friends from the Midlands…”

Toon Bano:

“Hate losing so I’ll take the draw but very frustrating the amount of chances we waste when Gayle isn’t on the pitch.

“Mitro can be passionate, decent in the air and cause some issues but he will never be a quality consistent striker.

“It doesn’t take much to put his ‘fire’ out.

“Very annoying that the chasing pack all won and some in stoppage time!! Very annoying.

“Somehow still top. Big games to come. Howay!!!!”

George Stainsby:

“Taking the pre-match statistics and how we were against Wolves, this could be a step in the right direction.

“Lascelles didn’t give up or freeze after the goals. Norwich are a team in form. I haven’t got any nails left and it’s only February, but I think I would have taken this beforehand.

“And scoring late on might deflate Brighton a bit. Mind, but, I like a bright side.”

Jamie Swan

“Chuffing Nora.

“There’s games you’d take a point from before a ball was kicked – and this was one of them.

“Some games we’ve been scraping through away from home with some old fashioned, scruffy one nil-ers. Well this wasn’t one of them!

“Well it is Valentine’s night, so no clean sheets is the sign of a good one! Fnar Fnar.

“We had enough chances to win two games tonight, but for some pretty horrific defending and goalkeeping, plus the width of a post and crossbar we’d have blitzed them buggers again.

“King Kev’s birthday and the spirit of his team had us partaking in what seemed like a game of basketball at one point. Nerves shredded.

“Third place is like a pack of rabid dogs at the minute climbing over wa fence. Just going to have to beat Reading, Brighton and Huddersfield on their own patches and sort them out.

“Here’s hoping.”
