Newcastle v Bristol City player ratings by fans – Tough Love

The results of the Newcastle v Bristol City player ratings by fans.

As usual Ciaran Clark (7.4) was rated Newcastle’s best defender after Saturday but this time he was seen as pretty much NUFC’s only defender.

Rated man of the match as well by fans, Clark saw those around him have a stinker at the back (plus the centre-back came up with the vital equaliser), after playing so well against Aston Villa.

Lascelles (4.3) and Dummett (4.6) were poor and at fault at least in part for the two goals, whilst Yedlin (5.7) was little better at the back but at least his energy and forward running helped Newcastle to a degree at the other end.

Rated absolute lowest at the back though was Karl Darlow (3.7), who had a day to forget. Improving in the second half but at fault for the second goal and could have given away another when showing bad judgement once again when charging out to try and clear a situation.

However, despite those failings at the back, it shows how bad things were at the other end for Newcastle’s front pair to get even lower marks.

Aleksandar Mitrovic (3.5) was terrible but Ayoze Perez (3.3) judged even worse, much better needed from the pair of them.

Jack Colback (3.8) was deemed to have had another really bad day at the office and you wonder what Rafa Benitez might do in the middle of the pitch for the Brighton game, as Hayden is proving a big miss.

Jonjo Shelvey (6.8) did everything he could in that second-half to drive Newcastle forward and helped force the two goals, he can’t do it alone though.

Next best were the two wingers, Ritchie (6.6) his usual busy self but the final ball lacking, whilst Christian Atsu (6.7) was beating his man regularly but also finding the end product harder to come by. However, in defence of the pair of them, when the two strikers show such a lack of desire to get on the end of balls into the box and fail to make themselves available, it makes everybody else’s job impossible at times.
