Newcastle star surprisingly makes official EFL Cup team of the tournament

One Newcastle player has been surprisingly named in the official EFL Cup team of the tournament.

The organisers naming a best eleven participants ahead of today’s final.

Southampton take on Manchester United and it is Mohamed Diame who has been included in the best eleven to have taken part in this season’s competition.

“The Senegalese midfielder netted three times in Newcastle’s run to the quarter-finals and was one of the stars of the show in Round Four. 

“After featuring in routine wins over Cheltenham Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers, Diame bagged a brace in the 6-0 thrashing of Preston North End and scored against his former club, Hull, when the Magpies eventually bowed out. “
