Cheick Tiote has played his last game for Newcastle United according to Sky Sports.
The midfielder was not included in the Newcastle squad that travelled to Oxford for the latest FA Cup disaster, the midfielder said to have instead been working on getting a move at last.
On deadline day lunchtime, Sky Sports are stating that Cheick Tiote has now signed for an as yet unnamed Chinese club.
The contract he has agreed is reported to be a two year deal, the player turns 31 in June.
In six and a half years, Tiote only started 129 league matches and scored that solitary Premier League goal against Arsenal.
A bit like that 2011/12 season in general, Cheick Tiote looked a class act for a period of time, especially when partnered with the more creative Yohan Cabaye.
However, difficult to see many positives in recent seasons as injuries, lack of fitness and mostly poor form have been the order of the day.
Only 15 minutes of Championship action this season when looking way off the pace against Aston Villa, plus two very poor FA Cup run outs against Birmingham.
Very good for a brief period of time, maybe the club should have taken that mythical £20m when it was on ‘offer’.
The combative midfielder will also now not to be able to add to the phenomenal 52 yellows (and 1 red) that he picked up in those 129 league starts (plus 10 as a sub).
At least a positive for the club that five months of top wages will be saved and hopefully go towards getting Andros Townsend over the line…
