Rafa Benitez Brentford press conference: Talks Cheick Tiote interest, Mitrovic injury and staying calm

The Rafa Benitez Brentford Press Conference has taken place on Friday lunchtime.

Ahead of Saturday afternoon’s match in West London, Rafa has as usual, complimented the opposition.

The United boss saying that ‘Brentford are a good team who play good football, especially at home’.

Dean Smith’s side have only lost three of their 12 Championship home matches, winning five and drawing the other four.

On the other hand, Newcastle of course have the best away form in the division, picking up 28 points on their travels, with nine wins, one draw and three defeats.

It remains to be seen whether star striker Scott Hogan faces Newcastle, his presence depending on whether West Ham continue to pursue his signature, having already made three bids for the 14 goal forward.

As for the transfer market, not much new to really report.

With Rafa simply stating that they continue to work hard in trying to find the right players who will improve the team/squad.

He did though confirm that a number of clubs are trying to sign Cheick Tiote, his departure would at least be one positive, helping to free up space in the squad and extra cash on one of Newcastle’s biggest wage earners.

The Manager also confirmed that as expected Aleksandar Mitrovic will be missing for the moment, the striker himself having said earlier that it would be at least a few weeks before they could judge when his comeback might be.

First quotes from the Rafa Benitez Brentford Press Conference:

“We are working hard, trying to find the right players for us.

I was talking with Mitrovic – he’s progressing, but he will take time.

“Cheick Tiote has a lot of clubs asking and now we have two or three who are really interested.

“We know Brentford are a good team who play good football, especially at home.

“The competition in the division is so difficult – anything can happen. We have to fight until the last month.

“We have to stay calm, concentrate and work as hard as possible.”
