Rafa Benitez admits he wants to bring in ‘Better players’ in January

Rafa Benitez admits he is now closely monitoring the January transfer window.

The United boss saying that despite the transfer market now being ‘quite strange’, he is hopeful of bringing in ‘better’ players to improve his squad.

Rafa added to the better players comment by stating that it could also be more of a case of new signings who would give ‘better balance’. Maybe a suggestion that the Manager feels he is lacking a certain type of player(s) in some position(s).

It is a bit of a strange one because despite Newcastle being the Championship’s top scorers, most fans seem to think that players who can create and score goals are the biggest priority.

The perception of many that shortage of quality elsewhere has been covered up largely by Shelvey and Gayle’s contribution, not being helped by two defeats in three games since the midfielder’s suspension started, as well as a failure to score in those two games as well.

Despite admitting that he is looking for new signings, Rafa Benitez does still claim that he is confident Newcastle will win matches without fresh blood in the team.

That might well be the case but I think we all, including Rafa, would like some extra insurance that this will happen in the second half of the season, with an added goal threat from new player(s) top of the agenda.

Rafa Benitez asked if any movement on bringing players in:

“Not yet.

“We are trying to find the right players.

“January is not an easy transfer window but hopefully we can do something.

“They have to be players who are better than what we have at the moment, or give better balance.

“Playing like this (at Blackburn), I think that we can win games even without these (new) players.

“Now it is all about keeping working and try to find the players.

“It’s not easy as the market is quite strange and there have been a lot of changes.

“We have to try to find those players that will give us something different.”
