The Predicted 4-2-3-1 Newcastle team v Rotherham

Here is the predicted Newcastle team v Rotherham.

I know it is usually fraught with danger but guesstimating the likely starting 11 today, surely looks a little/lot more straightforward than normal.

Wednesday night showed both Shelvey and Hayden fit and ready to play, so they look nailed on to be reunited in midfield.

Meanwhile, Rafa Benitez has confirmed that the likes of Mitrovic and Gayle won’t be back this weekend, so along with Gamez, Aarons and Anita they stay on the injured list.

With Atsu, Diame and Mbemba all away in Gabon, the likely team looks ever more clear.

The local press have made a story of Sammy Ameobi possibly playing but I just can’t see (or want!) it.

Far more likely would be fellow returning loan player Jamie Sterry getting a game BUT that would be only if DeAndre Yedlin has picked up a knock on Wednesday night.

So the usual keeper and back four look nailed on, barring injury. Achraf Lazaar did ok against Birmingham but difficult to see Rafa making that choice at left-back instead of his usual selection of Paul Dummett.

Daryl Murphy was saved for today and the supporting cast look set to be Perez, Gouffran and Ritchie, with the only doubt as to how Rafa will put his formation out.

Missing the usual pace of Gayle, the United boss may choose to use Gouffran in a more forward position, as he is at least quicker than Perez and showed up well in the Cup replay.

To create the image above, John Martin used the NUFC team selector.
