Owen Coyle makes early bid for comedian of the year with Newcastle comments

Owen Coyle has made some ‘interesting’ comments after his team beat Newcastle 1-0 at Ewood Park.

Newcastle fans have rightly focused on the shortcomings of their team, as they failed to score a single goal after dominating the match and having 25 shots, then allowing the game to peter out without a real charge to get an equaliser.

However, Blackburn boss and potential comedian of the year, Owen Coyle, has quietly sneaked in a great one-liner, saying the home win was ‘well-deserved’.

Yes, Blackburn deserve some credit for keeping a clean sheet after defending all match but to say that equates to deserving three points is a little bit mad.

They had not one single effort on target in open play and they were the home team!

Plus Karl Darlow will be desperately disappointed he conceded the goal in the corner of the goal he was covering, whilst at the other end Steele was named man of the match after pulling off some outstanding stops.

Yes Newcastle have had their pockets picked but very difficult to say that those doing the pocket picking really deserved their ill-gotten gains.

A look at the stats below is all you need to see.

Owen Coyle:

“We have had to show a bit of everything that we have today.

“We had to show the spirit, endeavour, the heart for the fight – fight and bravery against a side that I believe will go on and be the champions of the division.

“But we also provided a threat and we looked like we could get goals in the game and ultimately it has come from a wonderful Charlie Mulgrew free-kick.

“In the first half Jason Steele had to make a couple of very good saves, then there were two correct disallowed decisions in the second half.

“But the important thing was that no matter how, that we got the three points today, off the back of what now looks like a very good point against Huddersfield.

“It was a valuable three points, I thought it was hard-earned and well-deserved.”
