The results of the Newcastle v Rotherham player ratings by fans.

A game that was a slow burner but stirred into life as half-time approached.

Your man of the match was a player who has bounced back to form in recent games, Matt Ritchie (8.0) capping his performance with two goals, making it 10 this season in all competitions.

Below are the ratings as voted by Newcastle fans up to 7pm on Sunday:

There was an even split between the other 10 players who started the game – five getting marks of 7.0 and better – five getting below that 7.0 level.

Next best was DeAndre Yedlin (7.6) putting in a typically energetic performance but doing well defensively AND an end product going forward, two great assists for the Murphy and Perez goals.

Next up were two regulars at the top of the ratings, United’s best defender as usual – Ciaran Clark, plus playmaker Jonjo Shelvey, both scoring 7.5.

Karl Darlow (7.2) didn’t have a lot to do but after dropping himself in it when conceding possession, his brilliant retrieval save was outstanding.

At the bottom end of the spectrum, defenders Jamaal Lascelles (6.0) and Paul Dummett (6.1) struggled at times in the first half against a Rotherham side who at times ran with the ball and exposed the NUFC pair’s lack of mobility.

Next lowest was Yoan Gouffran (6.3), contributing little going forward in the first half but coming a little to life in the second, his weak effort at least on target, which the goalkeeper spilled for the second goal just after half-time.

Getting slightly below average scores were Ayoze Perez and Isaac Hayden, both scoring 6.6 as they struggled to have real impact on the game.
