An interesting one sees Kevin Nolan taking on a huge new managerial role.

The former Newcastle star has taken on the massive job at Notts Couty, who currently stand just one point and one place off a drop into non-league football.

The club has been taken over and new owner Alan Hardy has brought in the 34 year old.

He will be reunited with former Newcastle teammate Alan Smith, who is on the playing staff and stood in as caretaker manager before Nolan’s appointment.

After scoring 17 goals to be joint top scorer in the Championship for Newcastle in the last promotion campaign, Kevin Nolan then really wrote his name in Geordie folklore with his hat-trick in the famous 5-1 Halloween victory over Sunderland.

Official Notts County Statement:

‘Notts County are delighted to announce Kevin Nolan as the club’s new manager.

The former Bolton, Newcastle and West Ham player will take his first training session tomorrow (Friday).

Nolan has previous experience in management following a spell in charge of Leyton Orient last season.

The 34-year-old was introduced to the press alongside the club’s new chairman and owner Alan Hardy this afternoon.

Ahead of the press conference, Hardy said:

“I am absolutely delighted that Kevin has agreed to become our new manager.

“He is a consummate professional with vast footballing experience and I was very impressed with what he had to say when we discussed the vacancy.

“I thoroughly look forward to working with him.”
