Feedback from Swansea fans on Newcastle target Modou Barrow

Newcastle United are interested in signing Modou Barrow and we wait to see whether this will prove Newcastle’s first/only signing of the January transfer window.

The winger is said to have a £5m release clause and is reported to be unwanted by new boss Paul Clement but what do the Swansea fans think?

After reading the comments from their supporters below, there appears to be one thing that they can all agree on – Modou Barrow has got pace to burn.

However, they also all pretty much seem to agree that he is a bit of a headless chicken at the moment.

Some happy to sell but others thinking they could have a top top player on their hands if he responds to a decent coach like Paul Clement.

Or Rafa Benitez…?

Swansea fans comment on possible departure of Modou Barrow via their top message boards TheJack.Army and PlanetSwans:

‘I’d rather sell him to be honest, we should get around £5 to £6 million for him. All pace and no skill.’

‘£5M release clause allegedly.’

‘I’ve heard it’s only a relegation release clause.’

‘I’ve often thought Newcastle’s Chancel Mbemba looked like a promising CB.

I know he hasn’t featured all that much, but I’d think he would be an upgrade on what I’ve seen of VDH.

If we can’t get Jagielka or another experienced CB, I wouldn’t mind trying him.’

‘Jordan Ayew is definitely an upgrade over Barrow so I’d take him, especially if Barrow is rumoured to be a bit of a nob.’

‘Better to sell him and use the money to get a player we really need.’

Championship player.

One of many on our books.’

‘I believe that Clement has the ability to change players attitudes and if he can change Barrow’s we have a potentially excellent player….I think Clement will up his fitness too.’

‘Barrow has the priceless asset of pace and I think that PC and his coaching team can get the best out of him. He’d be some player if he realises his potential.’

‘Barrow has potential but I’m worried about his mental ability – he’s raw and can improve but he’s 24 and seems to lack the brain to pick the correct call.

He’s also a relatively lightweight player like Montero who doesn’t do a great job defensively when required.’

‘Barrow and Montero one trick ponies but even they have a place in a decent team from time to time.’

‘We could send Barrow on loan to Villa for the rest of the season and then decide on his future.

I like Barrow’s pace, he is a f***ing Speedy Gonzales, and we should keep him at least as a super sub.’

‘I’m hoping that Clement and his coaching team can get a lot more out of our players than have previous coaches.

Naughton is an obvious candidate for that but we should give Barrow every chance because of the sheer pace he has. Pace frightens defenders to death, they hate it.

If Clement can get him to up his game we could have a world-beater on our hands. BUT, the one thing he can’t teach him is intelligence. We have to hope that that will come with experience.’

‘Selling Barrow would be mental, he has the most talent of all our young players, by far, but we have not had the coaching and staff needed to improve the development of players.’
