Derby fans comment on Tom Ince £8m move to Newcastle transfer story – Interesting

Claims of an £8m deal to take Tom Ince from Derby to Newcastle created plenty headlines and interesting to see what the Rams’ fans have been saying about it.

The £8m figure is seen unanimously as unrealistic in today’s market, even though they paid less than £5m only 18 months ago.

That’s fair enough, although one Derby fan does worry whether the player could possibly have insisted on a buyout clause figure in his contract, which could equate to the £8m in the transfer story.

Some interesting observations about Newcastle United and Rafa Benitez….

Whilst I think that it is interesting that whilst some Derby fans say they wouldn’t sell Tom Ince under any circumstances, maybe the majority indicate that if Newcastle paid £xxmillion then they would maybe sell.

With flair players they can blow hot and cold and some point to the fact that Ince was really poor early in the season and then sparked into life when there was a change of Manager.

Interesting that some point to a move maybe happening if Chris Martin does end up back at Derby. Steve McClaren has said he is trying to get the striker back early from his loan at Fulham – with there said to be no love lost between him and Tom Ince.

Derby fans comment on possibility of Tom Ince heading to Newcastle, comments via their top messageboard DCFCfans.uk:

‘He’ll be in the Premier league with Newcastle in a few months’ time.

Let’s not forget his form dips as well as his brilliance in the past few months.

I  reckon we would probably take £12m.’

‘For £8 million, Newcastle have got more chance of signing Paul Ince. Ludicrous stuff.’

‘No no no no no no no no and more no! If we’re so stupid as to sell our best attacker to Newcastle I think I’ll **** off and join jb in Notts county.’

‘It was only a question of time with his goals and then to score the winner and knock out a top 10 premier league side – he has been all over the FA cup headlines – this won’t be the first attempt to pry him away.’

‘Best winger in the division should be going for a lot more than £8m.’

‘He’s gonna go because he knows Martin is a dead cert to return to the club and everyone knows he hates Martin plus he knows he already looks good in black and white.’

‘Try doubling it, then we’ll consider responding.’

‘Maybe he can ask Steve McClaren how it panned out for him at Newcastle…’

‘We’re not going to sell Ince to Newcastle for £8 million when other clubs (like Sheff Weds) are asking nearly double that for players like Forestieri.

Derby will likely make Newcastle pay closer to £20m.’

‘I don’t think he’d want to move particularly unless a prem club came in for him.

He seems to have found himself here.’

‘Today’s market sees massively inflated prices, Ince’s real value is probably around the £8 million mark but anything shy of £15 million would be silly.

Consider that Ince is in his best form since joining the club permanently and is on 9 goals so far this season, form automatically adds a few million to the price tag (see Nick Blackman). He’s still only 24, relatively young and still lots of potential to improve. Also, we’d be selling to a promotion rival.

£18 million would be the lowest we should be looking at to sell to Newcastle. He’s a star and one of our best players, sometimes it’s about pricing them out of the market!’

‘At least if his form dips now, we can blame it on the rumours of Newcastle being interested.’

‘Ince hat trick against Newcastle in few weeks time.’

‘Lol Newcastle can ‘do one’.

Always some teams trying to unsettle our players when they in form.’

‘8 million and a zero hours contract. No way.’

‘Don’t see why he’d go Newcastle when they have Ritchie, Atsu & gouffran also don’t see us selling to a promotion rival.’

‘8m Dwight Gayle & Matt Richie and maybe we’ll seem interested.’

‘F… Off Newcastle try keeping the 100 players happy wot u have.’

‘Just hope he goes to the media to rule out the move or our fans will be demanding an apology off him…’

‘If it’s true he’d go. Almost guaranteed premier league football next season. He’s a footballer and if he’s got ambition and wants more money then it’s Newcastle next.’

‘We sold Jeff Hendrick for nearly £11 million…we’re not selling Tom Ince for £8m.’

‘Cheeky low bid, with prem money or maybe summer prem money a goal scoring wideman is worth a lot lot more especially when you look at the load of rubbish Newcastle sold and what for.’

‘Double figures for goals in each season he’s played for us, never lost a game he’s scored in… His form dips like any player’s, but I don’t think it’s fair to say he’s a flash in the pan player. He’s performed a huge role over three seasons now.’

‘It also won’t be lost on Ince that Newcastle all but certain to be playing in premier league next season does not necessarily equate to “tom Ince playing for Newcastle in the premier league”.’

‘How many of us would have taken £8m at the start of the season?

Working for Benitez could be a big draw, however if he’s sensible he’ll wait until the summer.

Then it could suit all three parties.’

Benitez a draw?

The bloke whose success is manly based on strictly regimented, well drilled defensive formations?

I have a feeling Tom might have some recent experience of playing in that sort of set up, not sure how much he enjoyed it though.’

‘I’m happy Ince is beginning to shine again this season, he’s able to show everyone exactly why he’s up there as one of the best in this division, SMC seems to bring out the best.

Newcastle are nailed on promotion, so the prospect of PL football must appeal somewhat. If they double up I think that might lead to some discussions.’

‘Fantastic fit for them and would no doubt shine in their side.

£8m would be a steal too.

After loaning Martin out, I’m not taking anything for granted!’

‘The issue will be if he has an £8mn release clause in his contract. We may not be able to stop him going.’

‘I would say 10m at least, hope for 15m and be over the moon with 20m.’

‘Why would he go to a smaller club?

*Gets 55,000 Geordies on my door step!’

‘The thing with Ince is that he excels in a 4-3-3 as a LW. Derby is an excellent fit for him as he has a ‘free role’ and can be as creative as he likes.

Benitez is a lot more rigid when he sets up teams which would ultimately result in the geordies getting frustrated with him.’

‘8 million for Championship winger is silly money really.

Then again, current market is bit sillier.’
