Wigan Athletic 16 Dwight Gayle 16
A second hat-trick of the season on Saturday for Dwight Gayle and he stretched clear at the top of the Championship top scorers list.
With 16 goals he is three clear of Scott Hogan but it is when you look at minutes per goal, you see even more clearly how dominant he has been.
Dwight Gayle has found better than a goal a game, scoring on average once every 80 minutes he is on the pitch.
Next best are Glenn Murray once every 132 minutes (52 more than Gayle), whilst Scott Hogan is third best with once every 138 minutes (58 minutes more than Gayle).
Wednesday night sees Dwight Gayle and Newcastle United travel to second bottom Wigan Athletic and it is ironically a match-up between the Championship’s lowest scorers (Wigan) with the top scorer (Gayle).
Both have scored 16 goals and the smart money must be on Gayle pulling clear of Wigan on Wednesday night, IF Newcastle perform at the level they did against Birmingham.
As for where goals are scored, Wigan have managed only six at home and 10 away.
In contrast Newcastle United have 23 at home and 18 away, with Dwight Gayle’s personal record being 11 at St James Park and five on the road.
