Sammy Ameobi ‘Anybody but Newcastle please’
Sammy Ameobi at last looks to be making a go of having a football career.
His Newcastle contract runs out at the end of the season, by which time he will be aged 25, and has now made 19 appearances on loan at Bolton.
The latest of those came on Sunday, with Bolton winning 3-2 against Sheffield United to progress into the third round of the FA Cup.
The tie featured the two teams currently second and third in League One, with Sammy Ameobi scoring a cracking 25 yard left footed effort to help the Trotters into tonight’s draw (see all details of tonight’s draw, including Newcastle and Bolton’s numbers HERE).
After the victory, Sammy Ameobi only had one wish – ‘Anyone but Newcastle please’ in the next round, although he did admit ‘I’d take, Sunderland, they would be perfect’.
Whilst Bolton continue to have financial problems behind the scenes, at least on a personal level Sammy Ameobi is at last appearing to knuckle down and suggest he can play at a half-decent level, having scored three three goals this season as compared to six in his entire previous ‘career’.
It is an initial six month loan at Bolton so it remains to be seen in January whether we will see a deal done to make the move permanent.
Sammy Ameobi speaking to Bolton News:
“Anyone but Newcastle please.
“I’d take Sunderland. They would be perfect. I’d take that.
“I’d like to get a home fixture for the fans. Bolton have done so well in the FA Cup in the past it would be great to go on another run.
“Whoever we get won’t fancy playing us. We can keep up this momentum and take it into the third round.
“We worked really hard for this win, it is all about the team at the moment.
“You can see it every day in training, we work on the shape of the team, make sure we defend well. And we had to right there.
“We have got a lot of quality in this squad and it shows when you get a tight game like this.
“The gaffer has been absolutely brilliant. We’re gelling on and off the field and that goes on to the pitch. Long may it continue.”
