Rafa Benitez was in a state of utter disbelief.
The Newcastle Manager having presided over one of the most amateurish refereeing displays he will have ever seen.
Asked if he had been to see the referee…Rafa Benitez said that he hadn’t and he didn’t need to.
The United boss saying that the truth was self-explanatory and everybody had seen the incompetence on their TV screens, without him having to spell it out.
As Rafa says…’We can complain about the penalty not given, the goal offside, the Forest penalty given and the two red cards’, but what good will it do?
Whether the referee is now dropped from the Championship matches or not, is little help to NUFC.
Both penalties and red cards were dubious but whilst I can see Dummett maybe getting his retrospectively overturned, I wouldn’t put any money on seeing Shelvey for a while.
“It is very difficult to understand what happened.
“We can complain about the penalty not given, the goal offside, the Forest penalty given and the two red cards.
“I haven’t spoken to the referee, I don’t need to do it.
“I have seen the images and it’s obvious and clear to me.
“We did really well, we were doing what we had to do, but it’s a big difference when you have 45 minutes numerical (two man) superiority, it’s not easy.”
