Rafa Benitez confirms five players will miss Nottingham Forest game
Rafa Benitez has given an update on the injury position ahead of the game at Nottingham Forest.
For tonight’s match there is good news and bad news.
The good news is that there were no new injuries picked up on Tuesday night at Hull, though Rafa Benitez has repeated his mantra of needing to rest players to protect them from injuries.
The bad news is, that the United boss hasn’t got anybody ready to return from the injured list.
“Still the same (on the injury front), we still have exactly the same equation – we haven’t lost any more players but we haven’t recovered anyone else in time (for Nottingham Forest).”
Rolando Aarons is out until next season with his ACL injury but Rafa has provided some extra information on another four in the treatment room.
(Rob Elliot) “I have been talking with Rob Elliot about keeping pushing, then maybe something with the reserves.”
(Jack Colback) “Colback has been training but still we don’t want to push him.”
(Grant Hanley) “Hanley is still out.”
(Jesus Gamez) “He needed the (shoulder) operation and he has had it and he’s fine.
“Normally they say around six weeks.
“It was a fracture and the bone was going up and if it is too much, it can break the skin – but in this case, he had the muscle in the middle and so the surgeon said he needed the operation.
“Not the end of the world but still it is six weeks.”
You can almost certainly add a sixth to that list, with forgotten man Massadio Haidara very unlikely to be considered. He turns 24 today but it is 14 months since we last saw him in the first team, a substitute appearance in the 6-2 win over Norwich.
He has made a couple of reserve team appearances two months apart, the first in September and the other 11 days ago – but very difficult to see him involved, especially with Dummett available and Lazaar doing ok on Tuesday night.
