The Rafa Benitez Birmingham press conference has taken place on Friday lunchtime.

The United boss spelling out that now it is simply a case of players and fans realising they must ‘stick together’ and then ‘we can be stronger’.

After three defeats in a row, the first time in Rafa’s reign, United look to get back on track against Birmingham.

However, they will have to look to do it without one first teamer.

Rafa Benitez confirming that Ayoze Perez has missed training with a ‘fever’ and will definitely miss the game. However, there are no other new injuries.

The United boss also makes the point that Birmingham will be difficult, indicating the Blackburn and Forest matches as evidence that even against teams ‘near the bottom’ life can be made difficult, never mind a side who are fifth in the table.

Rafa Benitez Birmingham press conference:

“We have very good staff and we can manage, we’ll decide on whether we need somebody new or not (to replace Ian Cathro).

Birmingham are a good team.

“They’re doing a good job and it will be tough, a good test.

“The players and fans realise that if we stick together, we can be stronger.

“We defend each other, we help each other; that is the way.

“We play against a good team but even teams (Blackburn, Forest…) near the bottom are difficult.”
