Premier League points table for 2016 is classic Alan Pardew
It is really remarkable how Alan Pardew is still clinging onto his job at Selhurst Park.
It can only be his past allegiances to Crystal Palace and a desperation to still prove Newcastle fans were wrong, that are creating a situation where he hasn’t been sacked.
A while ago a table was put together, detailing how all clubs had got on in the Premier League throughout 2016.
Now that table has been updated and takes us from 1 January 2016 up to Christmas and the reality of Alan Pardew is laid bare.
There have been 23 clubs who have played Premier League football this calendar year and the only ones with a worse average points per game, are Aston Villa (0.47 points per game) and Hull City (0.71), with Alan Pardew and Crystal Palace only scraping above Hull with 0.72 points per game.
Incredibly, despite playing 17 more Premier League matches, Palace have only accumulated six more PL points than Newcastle in 2016.
With only 26 points, Palace make the likes of Sunderland (41) look almost respectable.
It is a lot more interesting watching the Alan Pardew situation from afar, than it was watching his teams in the flesh for most of his time at St James Park.
The stats are pretty damning for the former Newcastle boss – fewest wins, most defeats and more goals conceded than anybody else.
In his next three matches, Alan Pardew and his players face Watford and Swansea at home, sandwiching a trip to play Arsenal – can he fluke his way through and then be handed even more money to spend in January? To be continued…
