Here is the predicted Newcastle team v Birmingham.
You would never say with any certainty what a particular Newcastle team will be but…today could just be that rare occasion.
Newcastle weren’t doing a lot wrong against Nottingham Forest eight days ago, looking in total control – until Steve Martin’s intervention.
So it is difficult to see the United boss deviating much from that starting eleven.
Rafa said that the only new injury was Ayoze Perez, the Spaniard not training due to having a fever, so missing out today.
That leaves it seemingly clear for Mohamed Diame to get the starting spot behind Dwight Gayle.
Similarly, the other place in the team that is usually the hardest to guess, is also taken care of by injury. Jack Colback still not available and so Hayden will surely continue alongside Shelvey.
Having his red card rescinded along with Shelvey, Paul Dummett will be at left-back as usual, whilst the goalkeeper and centre-backs also look no -brainers.
DeAndre Yedlin has been winning out against Vurnon Anita in most recent selections and his excellent performance against Forest means he must be strong favourite to play today.
On the wings, maybe this is where there could be a small surprise, although both Gouffran & Ritchie looked solid at Forest and should hold off Christian Atsu.
Newcastle do have another sequence of three matches spread over a week but with four days until Wigan, the betting must be on Rafa playing his very best eleven today to try and get back on the winning trail and back to the top of the table.
